An 88-year-old monk lost his life on the morning of December 8, after being hit by a car while collecting alms in Phatthalung province. The collision occurred at approximately 06:20 on the inbound lane of the Abhaibirirak Road in Kuhasawan Subdistrict, Mueang District.

Responding to the incident, Pol. Lt. Sommai Kueasuk, an investigator from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, arrived at the scene with rescue personnel.

The collision involved a silver Toyota car, which sustained damage to its front hood and windscreen. Nearby, the lifeless body of the monk, a resident of Ban Rae Temple in Khuan Maprao Subdistrict, was found.

According to an initial statement from the driver, she was on her way to deliver porridge to Phatthalung Hospital when the accident occurred. Tearfully, she recounted that the monk was crossing the road when her car struck him. Overwhelmed with grief, she fainted at the scene.

Authorities have took her into custody for further questioning and are gathering statements from witnesses to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. Legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the investigation’s findings.
