Van Tyre Blowout Leads to Rollover in Nakhon Ratchasima, Injuring 14 Lao Workers
Picture from responders. A crash occurred on Highway 304 at 00.15 on December 12, in Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima, when a van suffered a tyre blowout and lost control, flipping over and injuring 14 Lao nationals onboard. The crash took place at the western-bound kilometre marker 223+162, near the entrance to Ban San Chao Pho Village, Wang Nam Khiao Subdistrict. The white Toyota van, registered in Rayong, collided with a streetlight pole before overturning and landing on its roof in the road’s central ditch. Police Lieutenant Precha Suebrat of Wang Nam Khiao Police Station and rescue teams from the Hook 31 Rescue Unit, Thai Samakkhi branch, responded to the incident. Rescuers found 14 injured individuals, 11 men and 3 women, all between the ages of 18 and 25. Most of the injuries, thankfully consisted of scrapes, bruises, and minor trauma. Three of the injured victims were found to have broken bone injuries and were taken to Wang Nam Khiao Hospital for further treatment and observation. The remaining victims were provided first aid at the scene and transported to the hospital for precautionary checks. The Hook 31 Rescue Unit deployed multiple ambulances and equipment to assist at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the crash was caused by a tyre blowout, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle. The van, carrying Lao workers, was en route to an unspecified destination when the incident occurred. Emergency responders included local police from Wang Nam Khiao Police Station, Wang Nam Khiao Hospital medical teams, and multiple rescue units. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Initial findings suggest the van’s speed and the sudden tyre failure contributed to the loss of control. Police are also verifying the legal status of the passengers and the driver’s license and qualifications. -- 2024-12-13 -

Myanmar Worker Found Dead with Knife Stabbed in Chest: Pattaya
Picture from responders. Police found the body of a 26-year-old Myanmar national, identified as Zaw Win Chit, with a knife lodged in his chest. The authorities received the report at 2:00 on December 12 and responded promptly to the scene in a row of over 40 rented rooms on Sukhumvit Soi 29, Moo 5, in Na Kluea Subdistrict, Bang Lamung. The victim, wearing a brown checkered shirt and black pants, was found lying in a pool of blood in his room (Room 237). A fruit knife, about 20 cm long, was embedded in the center of his chest. He was confirmed dead at the scene. Two housemates of the deceased, both in their 20s and of the same nationality, were visibly shaken and provided their accounts through an interpreter. According to their statements, they had left the room to purchase goods, and upon returning, they found their roommate dead. One of the neighbours, a 25-year-old named Nyan, mentioned hearing loud noises and knocks at the door shortly before the discovery. He rushed to the scene and saw the other two housemates standing in front of the room, but he did not personally know the deceased, though he was aware that he had a history of drinking. Initial investigations by the forensic team have been conducted, and further evidence was collected from the scene. The police have also invited the two housemates for questioning. As of now, it remains unclear whether the death was the result of a self- inflicted injury or if foul play was involved. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of death. -- 2024-12-13 -

Elton John Speaks Out: Legalizing Cannabis is a Grave Mistake
I'm sorry, but just because you couldn't get your head out of the coke trough for a couple of decades doesn't mean that cannabis is bad for everyone! Cannabis will be consumed whether it's legal or not. Making it legal was the only way that made sense!- 1

Malaysia Rejects Thailand Border Wall, Eyes Tech Solutions
Picture courtesy: news1live The Malaysian government has decided against a proposed border wall between Kelantan state and Thailand's Narathiwat province, opting instead for high-tech solutions to tackle cross-border smuggling and crime. Initiated by Kelantan, the wall proposal faced opposition from Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who cited the high costs associated with building and maintaining such a barrier. In response to increasing concerns about illegal crossings and criminal activities along the border, Malaysia is shifting focus toward modern technology that promises more effective monitoring and control. Though the specific technologies have not been disclosed, the aim is to target informal crossing points, often referred to as "rat lanes," which have been prevalent between Malaysia and Thailand. While Kelantan's wall proposition—spanning 100 kilometres along the Golok River—remains in limbo pending central government approval, Mr Saifuddin's remarks suggest a strategic pivot away from traditional physical barriers. According to a Malaysian study, 154 of 281 identified "rat lanes" are situated along the Thai border, necessitating efficient surveillance to deter crime. Efforts to secure the border come as part of a larger initiative to embrace technological advancements in national safety, reflecting a broader global trend. By prioritising innovation over infrastructural expenditures, Malaysia seeks to manage border security with greater effectiveness and fiscal responsibility. This decision highlights an adaptation strategy that balances security needs with economic practicality, influencing how similar challenges might be approached within the region, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2024-12-13
