I kept a  live out mistress for years - I paid her car and loom and she came 'round in the afternoons for carnal purposes and then left. You could argue that is empty but I tried the live together with someone else for 3 years and had a fight every time I wanted to go out of my apartment and when i came back. House arrest is a punishment for a reason.

Agreed. During my "adjustment" time in Thailand, I was a fat boy in a candy shop. The first 8 months of retirement, I tested the various scenarios. Varied partners in varied locales (Pattaya, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Udon Thani), girl on retainer (2-3 times a week), University girl visiting over the weekend but ... In the end, perhaps due to habit or my personality, I found I favored a steady companion sharing my life so ... 13 years on, happily married to a traditionally raised Thai girl 26 years my junior (OK, I am ancient). Happy camper retired in Thailand.

Im sure you are happy with that, and you have never complained about your status Q, so I respect that. Really!

But there is so many who continously complaining, and make excuses for who they are, and what they do, when they really wanted to be something else, or do something else. If people want change, they have to do the job and commit

I really wanted to be a porn star in Japan, but I'm not Japanese. Is that an excuse or a reason?

There is nothing wrong with complaining and it can be cathartic. The Duke of Wellington reportedly said he was happy when his men complained, but when they stopped he worried.

Empty is good. It usually avoids the descent into raw hatred and locking the bedroom door for fear she would murder me in my sleep.

Long term relationships cost more than renting.

But none of them are free, in the long run.

100% correct!

We all pay for sex - one way or another.

It's the way of the world.

The minute or second just one banknote leaves your pocket, enroute for some female, whatever that banknote is for - you are ultimately paying to get into her knickers.

Girlfriend, would-be girlfriend, wife, mistress, gik, hooker, friend - the end result is the same.

There is no difference!

you get what you pay for - you pay for what you get.

And deep down - we all know that.

Surely this can't be? There are so many people on here claiming their GF/wife pays for everything herself.

By far the majority of the posts in this topic reveal the damaged state of that same majority who have chosen to impose themselves on Thailand or who have  retreated to comment negatively from afar  while refusing to acknowledge they are failures from within their home origins yet insisting on superiority in all things.

Even if you commit, you're still "Renting Companionship."

Just nother excuse for being socially impaired

Not in that majority.

Of course.

You are like someone standing in the Old Thermae looking around him at the other people there thinking they are the dregs of humanity whilst failing to understand he appears as just the same in the look around of the people he considers the dregs of humanity.

Do I detect a whiff of a superiority complex?

I was happy being socially impaired, and then I went and got married. HUUUUUUUGE mistake. Much better being socially impaired, psychologically and financially.

Marriage is not the answer. IMO it's the doorway to hell.

So am I correct about damaged peeps?

Is being correct superior?

Marriage is not a good solution for everyone, just tired of hearing the generalized opinion from those who made mistakes, and can not be in healthy relationships,  dragging everyone down in the mud, comparing their experiences to their own.

Just respect people have different experience. Is that to much asking for?

A marriage is a understood partnership, supposed to be contributing for both in a positive way.

Give and take

No, thinking you are superior is being a 'rissole'

Not being sarcastic, but didn't you marry a prostitute? If so, your sentence should read,

"marriage to a prostitute is not the answer. It's the doorway to hell."

Most would agree with that.

I never paid my (ex) wife anything; to hell with that, lol!

However, I am a bachelor these days, so I do have a very sanook gik/maid who happens to live nearby and comes over to stay the night once a week and then she does a couple of hours of cleaning, tidying, and ironing the next morning.

As Neil Young said, "A Man Needs a Maid"

And in Thailand it's cost effective; you've got to take advantage of it.

And she's happy - cos it's a part time job for her - when her falang boyfriend isn't here.
