Transgender Fencer Sparks Controversy with Prestigious Win on Women’s Team

No, there does not.  Stonewall started this grift when they realised that attaining equality for gay and lesbian people wasn't good for business and needed a perpetual business model.   Pitting transgenders against women is the almost perfect grift as it is a dispute that can never be settled as to give more rights to one you have to take away from another.

The only way this grift ends is when we go back to the good old days and stop pretending that men can actually become women.

Salary and benefits is driving this.

I fully support any man's right to live as a woman, dress as a women, etc, but it is a nonsense to ever believe that they ARE a woman.

They will always be a man acting the part of a woman, unless science invents a way to change chromosomes.

I see the usual brigade are out in droves, pearl clutching to the extremee whilst conveniently ignoring the FACT that many, many sports to include althletics, swimming, rugby, cricket, cycling, rowing and tennis already ban trans althletes. There are a few outlier sports (and I'd include fencing as outlier) that are still trying to work out what to do but I think the majority of sports where 'women who used to be men' is considered an advantage have already adressed the subject and acted appropriately.

My input is more related to the activity than the gender issue per se. Regarding fencing the sometimes advantages imparted by the male physique in sports activities are much less pronounced with the possible exception of fencing with the cutlass.  Innate strength is considerably less important than speed and agility when engaging with foil or epe’e. In fact too vigorous “thrashing about” can result in scoring deficit.

In my growing-up home town we had a former Olympic fencing coach ( Mr. Jones) and I joined the fencing club at my undergraduate university, so I do have some insight. The “swashbuckling” scenes in films can be faves or vast disappointments when choreographed by subject inexperienced “action” directors.

Why can't they recognise they have an unfair advantage and have the decency not to compete in womens sports - or is that what it is really about?

Have you ever read or seen or heard of a trans walk away from taking advantage of someone who is not a trans?

Their competing against a weaker sex gives them the unfair advantage to win as shown in this OP. 26th place against men. 1st place against women..

I used to fence competitively - got through to the British Army finals one year, got beaten spectacularly by someone who was in the British Olympic Squad, so that is another story.

But of course this bloke won, (and yes he is a bloke, no matter how he dresses or identifies), twice the size, twice the reach and twice the strength. A complete nonsense.

Chap needs a haircut too!

I might question your assertion of “twice” in every metric. On what do you base this? I am nearly twice my wife’s weight but certainly not twice her height, my reach is about 125% of hers, not 200%, and though we have not made any attempt to quantify it I am pretty sure I am not ( any longer ) twice as strong.

In my college fencing days I was pretty regularly beaten by smaller, female fencers.

.

Just saying I think it is an area where the usual genetic disparity does not confer undue advantage, similar to the way I have seen  some opinions that women can be superior pilots, e.g.

What Idiots let them Wannabe women compete in a All women's  sport events .

What is this world coming too.

Another one with lack of reading comprehension.
They are not allowed to compete 'in a All women's  sport events' as mentioned in my previous post.

I don't believe in any delusional God, Buddha, etc., but dividing the human race (and other animals) up into just two genders doesn't seem to work for a small percentage of the population. How we deal with that and treat them is the topic. Rather than deny they exist, I would rather see them accommodated in some way, not just excluded.

It’s the like of you that has created this problem. Where does it stop? I’m a convicted mass murderer who identifies as a squirrel? I’m living long enough to understand that give somebody an excuse and they will take it. Get real. We are doing enough to destroy this earth without having at last count 34 different variations. There are thugs walking the streets while an Irish school teacher has spent 6 months in jail for refusing to use trans gender weird and wonderful pronouns for one of his students. They exist nowhere but in their own confusion and your wokeness.

No, people like me have not created this problem. It's people like you who have, people who refuse to accept all the different varieties of people in this world. Racism used to be easy to define; it was just White or Black. But what now? What is someone who is half-White and half-Black, or 3/4 White and 1/4 Black, etc...? It's the same with gender. (It used to be you were considered Black until you were less than 1/8th Black).

I do agree with you that we (humans) are doing more than enough to destroy the Earth. I've written about that in detail in a book entitled The Icarus Syndrome.

So, transgender people of all sorts are here and have always been here. There are records of them throughout history. We can refuse to acknowledge that and ostracize them or label them as "crazy," or we can work out ways to accept and accommodate them. I know you're for the former, and I'm for the latter. I will not change my attitude, and probably neither will you.

If you are going to fight this battle then may I suggest you at least get your facts straight - 'The case has been widely reported in the US and elsewhere, with some reports incorrectly suggesting Burke has been jailed for not using gender-neutral pronouns.' In fact he hasn't 'spent 6 months in jail for refusing to use trans gender weird and wonderful pronouns', he 'has spent 11 days in prison for ignoring a court order to stay away from the school.'    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/15/irish-teacher-jailed-contempt-of-court-after-refusing-student-pronouns

You are like many on here who come on to this topic spewing absolute nonsense and false equivalences (squirrels indeed) because it fits with your miopic view on a complex and thought provoking issue. For us that live in Thailand, we see trans females all the time and it just simply isn't a problem to call them she if that's their preference because for the most part they look far more 'she' than 'he'. Live and let live I say and if it's not doing anyone any real harm (and no they shouldn't compete as women in sports) then what's the real issue other than the false indignation of people like you.
