I am downloading songs on Spotify. It seems a very good service, if you are on wifi or even your mobile data you can play your songs with a very good sound on the bluetooth ear buds.

You have a choice of the free downloads or you can pay 139Bt per month for playing your music normally without the need for wifi or using your mobile data. I don't mind paying the 139Bt per month, but what is the point if you will already mostly have the wifi or mobile data anyway.

Is there any other advantage with paying the 139Bt per month for always?

Yes... with Spotify Premium ...

- No adverts.

- Higher sounds quality (320 kbps / standard is 160 kbps)

- Unlimited 'skips' ( normal  typically allows 6 skips per hour )

- Can download up to 10,000 songs (useful when offline and travelling etc)

Thanks. At the moment I have the free version and can still download music, I am not really interested in podcasts. The sound is of very good quality, so unless I am missing something, what is the point of paying 139Bt per month?

Thanks. I think I will pay the 139Bt per month. I assume it will be fine on, ie flights to the UK.

For you, perhaps there isn't  - there's no harm in just having the standard version...

... and, if adverts and not being able to 'skip' as often as you like etc becomes an issue, then you can upgrade then if you like.

I have Spotify ( free version ) in the car and play it almost constantly, the ads are very short, , it has a huge amount of content, unfortunately the little lady has discovered there’s a lot of Thai music also !!

As an aside i also use Radioplayer app via CarPlay ( assuming Android will work also ) which allows me to choose from hundreds of different U.K. radio stations.

The Radioplayer app won’t play any BBC programmes ( Radio’s 1, 2, 6, World Service etc ) but for these i use BBC Sounds app which also has numerous Podcasts, much to my delight i discovered recently Desert Island Discs ( more than 2000 ) are also available and have bookmarked many.

Some classics on there, Ian Wright blubbering brought a tear to my eye I have to admit !!

You can't download music on free version, you can only listen.

I think you mean you can't down load the music on to another device right?

You can only download music on paid Spotify, you can't download music on any of your devices on free Spotify

On paid Spotify

As Richard said above...... Can download up to 10,000 songs (useful when offline and travelling etc)

You can only listen to music for free, unless things have changed that I'm not aware of.

Spotify is the only "entertainment" I subscribe to, my saved list of favourite songs is 24 hours long

If you love music it's a must in Thailand at that price

I used to pay for Spotify Premium. I cancelled it after realising that just about anything I want to listen to is also available on YouTube Premium. On YT Premium, I download the music videos, mixes, podcasts, films, vlogs to my phone for use offline when on a flight. Can also create and download playlists. Of course, there's also access to all the other content on YT such as films and documentarys. All for just 179 Baht per month. Adios Spotify!

The disadvantage of using Spotify is that only a tiny fraction of your money ends up with the person who actually created the music. You are part of the commodification of the arts and eventually won't notice when everything is created by AI.

If you use Bandcamp, and occasionally pay for downloads, you will help to keep musicians in existence. On the first Friday of every month 100% of any money you spend on a download, or vinyl, or a CD, or merch, goes to the artist.

I love that it automatically connects to my car radio....

I think that the 'radios' in most modern cars have Bluetooth connectivity, so you can play any music or podcast from your phone, be it live or downloaded. It also allows hands-free phone calls, or message reception.

My 2012 Toyota Vigo has that facility.

I've had premium for years. Definitely has the shuffle option, I'm looking at it now.

Can anyone please tell me how I can get shuffle on the paid version? Is the quality of the music supposed to be better with the paid version? I certainly can't hear the difference.

it's your device not spotify that's connecting, anything playing on your device will 'connect'

Higher sound quality isn't much point unless your running it through expensive ear phones or hifi system in ya house, how long do you think it would take you to get through 10,000 songs? was a lot of gigs on my iPhone with my own personal made playlists from my own music, adverts, ya but you get use to them, skips? well thats not really true, I can skip away on the free version only time I get caught is when I let the song end then the add hits me...I supported enough rock stars for a lot of years, they aint getting anymore of my money, thank you for the free version of Spoitiy...

I dont pay but shuffle Im sure you can, interestingly the fee versions once did not have that option, now its locked to shuffle, have a look just above the first song on your list you will see 2 green arrows intertwined right next to the start button hit it and enjoy.

Yep, up to me, we can forget about supporting the artists the adds do that the point here is the premium version doesn't really offer much more, and since im Aussie would be paying with an Aussie CC the cost would be $13.99 a month which makes it 312B.

By the way the creator of Spotify originally his idea was that music should be free, did you see the Netflix show on it? it would seem once he got the taste of the Aston Martin Vanage the holiday house on the coast the mansion in the burbs and a few shareholders Premium came into being...

If you drink Leo instead of Singa you'll save a few baht there too.

Spotify in Thailand has numerous payment options

- Mobile Billing (charged to your phone bill)

- True Money Wallet

- BankCard (ATM card - with online payments enabled)

But... it seems none of that would interest you anyway - you are intent on getting Spotify for free and seem not to be bothered by the adds or other limitations.

I did see 'The Playlist' on Netflix - a very good movie.

If concerned with the morality about how much money gets through to the artists Tidal would be a better alternative, but that seems contradictory to you ensuring none of your money gets to the rock stars.

You might pee a little bit at the cost of seeing live performances (I think we paid about 20,000 in total for 3 of us for Bruno Mars).

No, there is not 2 green arrows in the paid version, the only green arrows are single ones for removing songs from my playlist.

You got no idea of my history mate, I use to be an avid music collector, I poured thousands into there pockets, went to enough concerts as well, for feeding the beast the best thing that happened to me was getting a nose allergy which turned me off noise, now how it did that I got no idea but I use to go from running the getto blaster all day full boar at work, the cd player in the car full bore, at home often enough, to wanting silence, but ive also reached a point in my life in this case music I anti paying, the guy that started Spotify had intended to put it out there for free, the main sticking point for me right from the start was paying to stream music but you never own what you downloaded, with movies and tv shows I aint watching it again for at least 10 ys if ever, music on the other hand, well I think you get my drift.
