AN Member Post Count Obsession

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I’ve noticed that whenever bickering starts between a couple of site members, they often bring up one another’s post count as some sort of measure of credibility. This kind of petty nonsense reminds me of the Social Credit System in China, it’s like the inner workings of a dystopian future.

At the end of the day, post count measures only one thing: how many posts someone has made. That’s it. Turning it into a tool for comparison for anything other than that is ridiculous. In fact, all this post count measuring and one-upping is no better than a bunch of childish old men boasting about penis size.

  • In all fairness, everyone posting has nothing better to do with their time. or they'd be doing it.

  • I usually get attacked on the basis my post count is too high, implying I have nothing better to do with my time.

I have lots of better things to do with my time, I just don't want to do them.....:))

No seriously though, I have OCD and I'm sticking to that excuse.

You probably could have spent your time better if you reflect on it.

It was better before, when the count was about how many likes your posts got.

Now there is serial posters or they maybe AI, posting rubbish as fast as they can.

I have started blocking the most ridiculous ones.

That would seem to be true!

The post above seems to be another way of getting attacked for too high a post count by posting yet another totally irrelevant post!

That does not leave many real posts for us to read does it?

Do you represent that remark?

They always tell  you that:

"You have too much time on your hands."

But, my question is:

How would they know?

My post before was not relevant? Your opinion, we all know what they say about opinions.

I am not interested in how many posts I make, it just happens.

Perhaps I should cut down on my responses to snipers from the peanut gallery.

True. Reminds me, I need to put one of our paid professional trolls on my blocklist under his new username. If he'd stay in his own topics, it'd be fine, but he roams around as part of the persona.

You seem to be assuming that those posters are spending all their time posting!  It is possible to post comments and do plenty of other things during the course of a day.

"...posting yet another totally irrelevant post!"

No more irrelevant than yours!

Yes, one thing only........measures how lonely they are, stuck in their keyboard world mostly annoying others, wanting an argument because they have no life to enjoy.

It seems some here are on AN forums all their waking hours.

I don't know if that's true. I have a high post count but I've been a member for 20 years and I certainly don't sit at my keyboard all day. I'm very very active and nearly always have physical projects on the go so I tend to work for a while and then come indoors and relax for 15/30 minutes and read the news and post. I probably have ten or twelve such sessions throughout the day but in-between I'm doing a lot of work elsewhere. I also wake early and tend to post then, waiting for the sun to come up so I can start work.

Finishing my breakfast, preparatory to heading off to golf. You do have me wondering what time zone you are in, given it is 7 am.

12 sessions at 30 minutes each means 6 hours a day on the site.
