Enough is Enough.

 

Tourist ghettos no more, I am done with them, the tourists (especially you know who) are destroying this beautiful country with their terrible manners, unruly kids and general disregard for others around them and the environment. I need some new scenery or I am going to go mad (if I haven't already reached that point)..

 

I would like to enlist the help of fellow AN members in asking where do you recommend I go with the following stipulations: 

 

1. Hardly any farangs in sight, especially tourists.

2. Remote places, can be mountainous, towns, city, beach, jungle, whatever.

3. Reasonable food

4. Reasonable room rates

5. Real local people, no tourist BS.

 

I welcome any and all input into this topic. Finally the tourist ghettos have worn me down - it took a while but it has finally happened. Now I understand Joe who retires way out in the sticks on a nice plot of land and a couple water buffalo with his young thai bride. There is something real in that kind of life that the ghetto just cannot provide. 

 

Wherever the tourists are going this high season, I'm not. I want a comprehensive list of places that are truly off the beaten track.

I've never lived far from a beach and city for long periods. 

 

When I first arrived, I stayed Phetchabun, out in the sticks, nice temple and caves but a 30 minutes drive into town got me down, need to be close to the beach. 

If I have a spare hour to kill, I'll ride my PCX down Beach Rd, from North Pattaya, maybe soi 6/1, give Bob a wave then down soi 6, heading south, around Bali Hai, Pratumnak, Jomtien Beach, the view is always dynamic, never the same always changing.

Yeah, Putins war has really screwed beautiful Thailand up. 

 

Being an Aussie, we generally give a nod or g'day to those you pass in the street etc. but the Russians avoid any interaction. With so many here now I tend to stop my g'day and hello's.

A few questions you must answer before moving to the sticks. For example what kind of internet access do you need? What kind of food do you need, if you need farang food you may have to stock up and cook your own? Most people only speak Thai or Issan dialect,

can you deal with that? I get along fine in the sticks , in twenty two years of coming to Thailand I have never been to Pattaya, only been to Chiang Mai once ,only been to Phuket once and that was enough.

yes I can deal with all that and it wouldn't be a permanent move (for now).

 

I'm just looking for some nice, quiet & local holiday spots this high season.

Thailand has a plethora of "alternative universes". Just meet some girls from Issan & you will experience all of your worldly or otherwise desires.🙃🙃

I have a farm near Korat but I'm happy to be able to wake at the farm, walk the dog and still be having lunch in a pub on Sukhumvit by noon if I get itchy feet.

 

Issan is great, but only if it's not too far from civilzation.

As for Isaan check out the area south of Sisaket.  Pretty sleepy.

Not a huge fan of soi 4, although the Steak and eggs at Fitzgeralds isn't bad.

 

That's the beauty of spending a bit of time in Issan, it gives you a nice break from Bangkok so that when you return, the buzz is (somewhat) back.

environment has a lot to do with happiness and contentment, at least for me.

 

I mean, if one had a choice, one would likely choose to live in a nice big house with a private pool next to a turquoise lagoon, basking in the noon sunshine alongside 5 young thai maidens vs living in a trailer park in Michigan in the middle of winter, with your granny...

You have to prepare for a lot of Brits during the next few months escaping the cold winter, but most of us have left by March.

It is a seasonal thing you just have to learn to live with.

 

You are always complaining about Thais so I don’t think you will cope living in an all Thai area. You probably get bad service in restaurants and beat up by the local teenagers when you leave.
