You know that this isn't Trumpland where you repeat the same lie enough times and people eventually believe you.

...you could've fooled me!

There is a short answer and a long answer.

The short answer is to stay away from Downtown Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Cha Am, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. There are second-tier T.Traps in some Rayong towns on the coastline, and the islands are off for you as well.

The long answer is any town in the following list. In some you might need to avoid the 'capital' of the province, but you can be close and still be a million miles from a place dense with tourists.

Samut Prakan

Ang Thong

Lop Buri

Sing Buri

Chai Nat

Saraburi

Trat

Chachoengsao

Prachin Buri

Nakhon Nayok

Sa Kaeo

Ratchaburi

Kanchanaburi

Suphan Buri

Samut Sakhon

Samut Songkhram

Phetchaburi

Prachuap Khiri Khan

Lamphun

Lampang

Uttaradit

Phrae

Nan

Phayao

Chiang Rai

Mae Hong Son

Nakhon Sawan

Uthai Thani

Kamphaeng Phet

Tak

Sukhothai

Phitsanulok

Phichit

Phetchabun

Nakhon Ratchasima

Buri Ram

Surin

Si Sa Ket

Ubon Ratchathani

Yasothon

Chaiyaphum

Amnat Charoen

Bueng Kan

Nong Bua Lam Phu

Khon Kaen

Udon Thani

Loei

Nong Khai

Maha Sarakham

Roi Et

Kalasin

Sakon Nakhon

Nakhon Phanom

Mukdahan

Nakhon Si Thammarat

Surat Thani

Ranong

Chumphon

Songkhla

Satun

Trang

Phattalung

Pattani

Yala

Narathiwat

I really appreciate your input.

Thank you!

I would like to enlist the help of fellow AN members in asking where do you recommend I go with the following stipulations:

1. Hardly any farangs in sight, especially tourists.

2. Remote places, can be mountainous, towns, city, beach, jungle, whatever.

3. Reasonable food

4. Reasonable room rates

5. Real local people, no tourist BS.

Vanuatu , Juarez, Sinaloa, Afghanistan and many more places.

Phrao, Chiang Mai (not sure if the same as mentioned before) is beautiful and hardly any tourists. It's ~100km from Chiang Mai.
There's hot springs northwest to the valley. It used to be free and there was hardly anyone ever there.
Plenty of nice places to go to with your motorbike. The road to the north (direction of Fang) is a nice drive through woods and hills.

North/Northeast you can also drive on dirt roads to some Lahu villages and Doi Mon Lan (which is also accessible by asphalt roads). Dirt road at 19.426095, 99.226404.

I live in Chiang Rai and now with the "high season" there's plenty of tourists at the waterfalls and other "tourist" spots.

If you aren't going there, it's mostly easy to avoid the tourists.

Thanks a lot for your input.

Much appreciated 🙂

I live in such a place now.. And surely will not be sharing it with you or the AN members viewing your post. to do such a thing would destroy the very thing you seek.

If you are not happy where you live or are visiting. Rent or drive a car around the country. I am most certain you can find what you seek if you go off looking yourself.

But my guess is that you actually like being in tourists ghettos. Bars, bargirls and whores, fights and attacks on people, lots of foreigner tourists.. Aggressive locals and businesses.

I hope you do not find the city i live in. That is for sure.

May I suggest the lakeside City of Phayao with it's views of the Kwan Phayao and mountain ranges to the west.

Yes, there are a few tourists that stop off on their way to The Golden Triangle, but otherwise very much a "locals" resort.

Situated on Highway Number 1 in Northern Thailand, 100kms south of Chiang Rai in Lanna.

Looks nice and sleepy.

Just how I like it! 🙂

I really don't recommend where I live, though far from a secret.  Not that it would interest any single folks, especially if they rely on some sort of nightlife (P4P) for companionship, or can't manage a conversation in Thai with a local.

Have noticed an influx of westerners in the area.   As I use to be the only westerner shopping at Makro most times, and now I see at least 5 others in there, while I'm shopping.   Although they are couples (farang / farang), and rarely, occasionally a farang / Thai couple, aside from wife & myself.

They don't seem to be fond of Thai food, as most seen at the only 2 westerner catering venues surfside.

To the topic title, OP seems to want to leave his ghetto (if even in TH), and start a new one :cheesy:

Ban Rak Thai, no tourists? When were you there, a couple of decades ago? Likewise Phu Chi Fa. That has both tourists and no rooms at all unless you consider a tent a room.

Tents are fine with me.

Al fresco is always good, especially this time of year!
