A high-speed chase in Chaiyaphum Province on the morning of December 21, ended in a dramatic crash involving a taxi, a six-wheel truck, and a police car, leaving multiple vehicles wrecked and several people injured.

The incident began around 08:20 when officers from the Lat Yai Police Station were alerted by staff at a nearby gas station that a green-and-yellow taxi had refuelled and fled without paying a bill of 1,750 baht. Police patrol units were immediately dispatched to track the vehicle along the Lat Yai–Chaiyaphum City Road.

The taxi was eventually spotted near a factory. When police attempted to question the driver, he sped off into Chaiyaphum City, prompting a pursuit. The chase ended when the taxi veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a six-wheel truck before spinning into a police vehicle.

The driver of the taxi, identified as Mr. Sanya, a 36-year-old Chaiyaphum native, was taken into custody at the scene. Emergency responders administered first aid to the injured and transported them to Chaiyaphum Hospital for further treatment.

The crash left significant damage to all involved vehicles. The six-wheel truck, driven by Mr. Worawit, 38, was carrying stage equipment for an event in Kud Tum, approximately 2 kilometres from the crash site. Mr. Worawit stated that the taxi crossed into his lane at high speed while being pursued by police. Despite attempting to swerve, he could not avoid the collision.

During questioning, Mr. Sanya admitted that he had driven from Bangkok to pick up his mother in a nearby district. However, after a disagreement with her, he left the house and stopped at the gas station to refuel. Lacking the funds to pay, he fled the station. Fearful of being charged with thief and aware of a prior legal case against him, Mr. Sanya sped away when he noticed police following him, leading to the crash.

Police later confirmed that Mr. Sanya tested negative for drugs. However, his statements during questioning were inconsistent, and investigators plan to conduct further interrogations to establish the full details of the incident.

The case remains under investigation, with charges of thief, reckless driving and damage to public and private property expected to follow.

Is it a good idea to start a high speed chase for 1750 Baht?

The station has CCTV cameras.

Should be possible to identify the vehicle and the driver.

What a numpty.

That will cost a lot more than 1,750 baht to repair those 3 vehicles to roadworthy condition, let alone the contents of the wrecked truck and the drivers injuries.

The taxi driver must have known that he did not have enough money to refuel before he set out.

That's quite the excuse, even for Thailand.  "It's not my fault I crashed.  I was scared of being arrested!"

🤣 one thread y'all are bitching about soft cops in Pats, this thread they're too aggressive 🤣🤣

It's almost as though people want some sort of middle ground where crime is taken seriously but the public isn't put in unnecessary danger.  🤔
