Man Arrested for Scamming Chinese Tourists at Maharaj Café

A 55-year-old man named Kritsana has been detained for impersonating a café owner and scamming a group of Chinese tourists in the Maharaj area. The fraud incident involved eight hearing-impaired tourists, who were charged 2,608 baht (US$75) for a meal by Kritsana before he fled.

 

The tourists were not able to file a complaint directly as they were set to return to China soon after. Police officer Teerapong Phinijmontri filed charges on their behalf.

 

Police investigations, using CCTV footage and information from informants, led to Kritsana's arrest at a flat in Bang Na. His criminal record shows previous arrests for similar scams, particularly in the Pathumwan area, where he pretended to own businesses and swindled money from foreign tourists.

 

 

Kritsana recently left prison on May 2, having served time for theft. He confessed to returning to fraud after his clothing business in Huai Khwang failed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

He targeted tourist-heavy areas, including Pathumwan, Yan Nawa, and Plubplachai. Currently in custody, Kritsana awaits further legal proceedings as investigations continue.
