Georgealbert Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Pictures from responders. A fire broke out at a synthetic fibre factory in Bangpu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan, early on January 2, causing damage estimated of over ฿20 million. The fire was reported to Bangpu Police Station at around 07:00. Firefighters from Bangpu Municipality and nearby areas responded with muliple fire engines. Upon arrival, they found one of the factory’s warehouses engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Workers from nearby buildings scrambled to evacuate materials, while firefighters battled to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent warehouses. The factory, located in Soi Bangpu 73, produces synthetic fibres used in car interiors. Despite being closed for the New Year holiday, three staff members, including two technicians and a security guard, were on-site. Mr Sak, 60, the security guard, reported that the fire began in the last warehouse before spreading to others. He suspected an electrical short circuit as the cause, as no machinery was in operation. By 10:00 after deploying 32 fire engines and numerous personnel from disaster response and volunteer units, the fire was brought under control. Officials confirmed that two production lines had been destroyed, but there were no injuries or fatalities. Police General Wichit Bun Chinwutikul, Provincial Police Commander of Samut Prakan, and other officials inspected the site. The factory owner, Mr Tara, was visibly distressed, breaking into tears as this was the second fire to strike the factory in recent years. General Wichit stated that the fire had started in the fifth warehouse of the single-storey facility, which spans eight rai of land and consists of five interconnected warehouses. The fire spread to the fourth warehouse before being contained. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Preliminary assessments attribute the fire spread to the synthetic materials stored in the warehouses, which are highly flammable. While the fire produced large plumes of smoke, officials assured that there was no immediate impact on nearby communities, including a hospital, as the smoke dissipated towards the sea. -- 2025-01-03 1
