My Acer AIO Desktop only 2 and a half years old has chucked it. It was left on sleep when not in use for the last few weeks because of previous problems trying to start it.

I came down yesterday morning to find it with a blank screen, after trying to start it with no success I took it to the guy in the local computer shop, and he told me that is it finished, it was caused by a little mark on the screen, he said he would not recommend trying to fix it. That's the third Acer in over 20 years of using a computer. No more Acer's for me.

I know one poster in particular who has had an AIO desktop for years with no problems. But no more AIO's for me. I am going back to an ordinary desk top this time.

Why not get a NUC style mini-PC?

Many / most will hang on to the VESA mounting holes on the back of a standard monitor.

All the space saving of an AIO and none of the disadvantages.

I do not know anything about these Crossy, I have ordered an Asus desktop as my previous Asus's have been excellent.

These beasties, readily available here, but a desktop has added advantages if being highly expandable.

Thanks Crossy but I ordered an item from Amazon only recently and it was stopped in Thailand, it only costs 25 GBP. My money was refunded, so I don't think I will be ordering anything from Amazon, besides I have ordered an Asus desktop from my local dealer.

Why immediately blame Acer?

As I was reading through your post I was thinking a power surge got to it.  Not uncommon in Thailand.

No power surge, I have one of these things which keep the computer on during a power cut.

I wasn't really suggesting going to Amazon it was just a quick example.

These or similar things are readily available on Lazada etc.

ASUS also do NUC devices https://www.asus.com/eg-en/content/nuc-overview/

Your desktop will be just fine of course 🙂

The acer has a full guarentee for two years and parts made by acer three years including the screen and the keyboard. I have had good service from authentic acer service centres and recommend anyone with a acer to use them. Not expensive and guarantee repair in thee hours. Especially recommend Chaing mai service centre.

Also an ASUS fan, and never let me down.  Had more than a few ASUS products, as upgrades to previous ones, being only reason for buying newer ones.

Always my recommendation when asked which to buy :coffee1:

When you are living up country 60ks from nearest city with only a motorbike for transport you are nowhere near any Acer agents, that's why I ordered a new desktop from my local computer shop, then he can take care of any warranty.

Ok, so, next question is, How did the "little mark on the screen" get there?

Does it have a SSD or HDD?

SSD. No idea how the mark got there, no one else has any access to my computer. It was the man in the local computer shop who pointed it out to me.

I'm interested to know what happened to it.

I'm wondering what would happen if you got a HDMI cable and plugged it into your TV and powered it up.

Are you thinking of a monitor?  If so, I mean your actual TV, what you watch movies, sports etc on.  Does the AIO have a HDMI port?

I have just got rid of my AIO, Nothing to do with a TV, an AIO is everything including a monitor, I am not sure about the HDMI port.

I have now ordered a new desktop, an ASUS. No more Acer's for me.

Ok.  I have an old Acer laptop.  Didn't it get worked hard and copped some punishment in it's life, and it's still going strong.  I just use it as a media player now.

Based on my use of that laptop, I certainly couldn't complain about Acer, but I accept your experience is different to mine.

Sorry I'm late getting back to you. Thanks.
