China has a 40 % youth unemployment rate, they are defaulting on payments to Belt and Road Exploitees, their military is corrupt, and they have thousands of empty buildings. Their tourism numbers are drying up. Their environment is a mess. They flood the world with cheap crap just to keep their population from rising.

I don't think China is playing the long game at all. Or, if they are, the're not going to have enough time to succeed. At least if they continue with their present policies. Before Xi, the private sector constituted more than 50% of the economy. That's been reversed. There's a huge amount of private debt out there thanks to the real estate bust and to the fact the the Chinese govt is compelling private sector business to make loans to failing government enterprises. And also making workers in the private sector spend hours studying the gemlike thoughts of Xi.

There was a time when Japan experienced the same kind of disdain. After WW2, it started to make cheap stuff and slowly worked its way up the value chain. China is following the same path. They offer plenty of advanced technology on the world market.

Xi is the greatest Chinese leader in recent times. Surely he is going to inflict some pain for long term gains to his people, but they can't topple him, there are no elections in China. The greatest move recently was to clamp on the real estate speculators. I keep an eye at a few high tech areas and the Chinese are moving very fast ahead.

Since intelligence about the opposition is never perfect it's obviously better to act as though they are stronger than you might otherwise believe. The US chose not to follow this dictum. We can see the result of that foolishiness in countries called Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

I hope it is true ....but after his  suspicious "face to face meeting" with Putin in Helsinki whereby he kicked out all his US assistants and kept only a Russian translator,  I am worried he will break up NATO and sell out the free world to Putin who then will pay his billions of legal and other debts.

They see the war in Ukraine as an American plot to force Europe to buy expensive American gas instead of cheap Russian gas. They are not interested in the fact that the EU exported goods worth 502 billion euros to the United States and imported goods worth 344 billion euros, creating a surplus of 158 billion euros.

In 2021, the year before Russia's second invasion of Ukraine, the EU exported to Russia only one fifth of the goods exported to the USA (99 billion euros), importing 158.5 billion euros mainly oil and gas.

The United States weights much more as a trade partner of the EU than Russia, and even than Russia, China and India combined.

And the same goes for American exports to the European Union. The EU imported more than double from the United States than China in 2023, and much more than Russia, China and India combined in any given year.

 

The narrative spread by far-right media in Europe, often financially supported by Russia and China, is that the future lies in the East. However, at least at the moment and for the foreseeable future, only a healthy trade relationship between the United States and Europe can ensure prosperity on both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Not encouraging that he just threatened a NATO country with military action to steal their territory for the U.S.

What's the point of even being in NATO if you do something like that?!?
