An undercover informant working for law enforcement was shot dead in a brutal attack on the night of January 7, in a suspected act of retaliation by a drug network. The victim, identified as Mr. Kolawit, 25, was ambushed and killed along a roadside in Moo 8, Phla Subdistrict, Khlong Thom District.

Authorities reported that the attackers used a military-grade firearm to carry out the assault, shooting the victim at close range. Police recovered 16 bullet casings and two bullets at the scene, a road through a rubber plantation.

At approximately noon on January 8, Krabi law enforcement officials, including Pol. Col. Pisanu Achchanapornkul and Pol. Col. Chavalit Phetsripia, conducted a thorough inspection of the crime scene. Evidence suggested that the victim may have been lured to the location via a phone call. Investigators believe Mr. Kolawit stopped his motorbike at the site, as indicated by a cigarette butt found near his body.

The investigation revealed that the victim had earlier visited a makeshift shelter in a rubber plantation approximately 500 metres away from the site of the shooting. No additional evidence was discovered at that location.

Preliminary police findings suggest the attackers were members of a drug network seeking revenge against the victim for his role as an informant. Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage from near the area to track the suspects and bring them to justice.

Mrs. Surin Sutthikerd, the assistant village head of Moo 8, recounted hearing gunfire from her nearby home around 22:00. Her son alerted her after hearing a rapid succession of shots from the plantation. "I heard more than ten gunshots in quick succession. When I arrived at the scene, I found him already dead," she said.

Mrs. Surin described the victim as someone not particularly law- abiding, with a history of possible involvement in illegal activities, though he was not known to have conflicts with others in the village.

The police investigation is ongoing as authorities work to apprehend those responsible for this violent crime.
