Revenue Department boss calls on tax residents in Thailand to file 2024 returns by March 31
TRD options appear to be: Say/do nothing: Puts stress on TRD offices and staff but results in increased tax filing volume. Uncertainty and lack of clarity persists but no loss of face. Over time, filing gains transaction and becomes status quo or is ignored and reverts to past behaviour (improbable, I suggest). Say Something: Risks greater confusion/foot in mouth, opens many cans of worms. Link to Visa Extension/Issuance: Game over -

Trump Criticizes Gov. Newsom’s Wildfire Management Amid Devastating California Fires
I've posted this elsewhere and it's still a thought I have. Could this actually be a terrorist attack? Something IMO I think shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. -

As you mentioned expattaxthailand, I will provide an update on their very clear opinion about the treatment by RD of U.S. retirement accounts (IRAs Roth and Traditional / 401ks). -- They are viewed as NOT excluded PENSIONS if income (withdrawals) are remitted -- The value as of December 31, 2023 of such accounts is irrelevant and not in any way excluded from Thai tax going forward. They are NOT treated the same way as saved money in a bank account at that date (of which funds are EXCLUDED from Thai tax if remitted) -- The FULL AMOUNT of withdraws from such accounts is subject to Thai tax if remitted to Thailand. The underlying investment vehicles in such accounts (stocks, bonds, etc.) is totally irrelevant and can not be accounted for based on a profit loss basis as can regular investments NOT in retirement accounts. We have heard strong opinions here totally countering the above. But please rather than just express such opinions, back this up with your source. As far as I know we have no statement from RD on this matter of great interest to many American retired expats. Of course expats in this stew of ambiguity are free to make a more advantageous reading of this situation and for example ignore the guidelines mentioned above. Then it would be up to them to defend their view upon audit and maybe that would fly at RD offices. Don't shoot the messenger. -

British drug dealer arrested after his suspicious behaviour in Phuket
The only statement he made when arrested was "Life under Kier Starmer doesn't sound so bad now" -

Decathlon Sports
I gave them a made up one...... they told me it is necessary to facilitate returns if needed. I would worry more about Lazada and Shopee, they got email and phone number, from the seller right through to the delivery driver. -

Yes I agree but seeing those intl articles being disseminated at the same time that the proposed ACT of the 15% corporate tax obviously from the text, included the worldwide income tax to begin also at the beginning of 2025 but as we know, the worldwide was scrapped and only the corporate tax became the approved Act. I guess they will continue working out the details of the next tax scheme which will either be separate or inclusive of the negative tax and worldwide income taxation but who knows how long that will take and seeing Pichai in the news so often where he absolutely says nothing of any real substance drives me bonkers even though I realize that nothing that they come up with will affect me financially, but in the future may impact my wife and daughter so am interested in that respect. I do appreciate your willingness to continue answering the same questions from so many AN users that just haven't kept up with the tax issues over the past 2 years or so. Take care and good luck. -

Motorcyclist Critically Injured After Crashing Into Stopped Truck in Pattaya
I am not too impressed with the truck being parked across a couple of lanes of traffic either. -

BREAKING NEWS: Musk tweets 'Farage doesn't have what it takes' to be Reform UK leader
Maybe just one reason could be Farage's attitude towards Tommy Robinson, who exposed the grooming rape gangs in the UK. Just today the United Arab Emirates declared the UK to be harbouring Islamic terrorists. The sane islamic countries can see what's happening.
