That's what I thought. On a similar theme, when someone dies and they say ' He/she, lived life to the full' you can bet they were a drug addict,alcoholic,sex addict.

Why go diving there in the first place?

 

In the spirit of safety, I think it would be better to fly to The Bahamas.

Good diving there.

And, probably, much safer.

 

The Caribbean is also a very nice place to visit and dive.

Better than Thailand, by far, just IMHO.

If he was diving off a PADI-certified boat and there were PADI instructors in the water with him, and he was diving with a "buddy," then he should not have died while diving, barring, of course, that he did not have a congenital heart condition or another catastrophic issue lying in wait.

I feel for the parents, they have raised €30,000 to take the body back to Ireland?  

 

The cost for a body repatriation can be anywhere between £2,500 and £20,000, however the average cost usually tends to be somewhere around £3,000 to £6,000.

The cost for an ashes repatriation is usually lower and can be around £1,000 to £3,000 depending on the level of the service.

 

This is to the UK,  I know what I'd be repatriation a nice urn .....

Very few deaths in Thailand can correctly be categorized as "unexpected."  Need the details on this one.

Not totally sure he was diving when he died......the report says "while he was diving in Thailand".....could mean he was here and he was here to dive.....not that he was actually diving at the time?????

RIP little brother doesn't go into much detail of what happened but does sound like a genuine tragic accident (unlike some other fatalities that have caught the headlines in Koh Tao) while scuba diving which I believe can be dangerous at times.

Only a young man would have cost next to nothing for insurance 😭

You don't even need 30.000 € to bring a corpse home, and any decent insurance would have covered it, as do many credit cards. Sorry for their loss, and sorry for all those cries for financial help.
