An explosion at approximately 09.55 on 23 January, at a meditation pavilion in the Chulabhorn Pattana 5 Village, Moo 9, Bong-O Subdistrict, Rangae District, Narathiwat, left seven soldiers from the 45th Ranger Task Force injured. The attack, believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), has prompted heightened security measures in the area.

 

The injured soldiers, identified by local authorities, were immediately transported to nearby hospitals. Their conditions are as follows:

 

1. Volunteer Ranger Boonchu Nakphan (31, Yala): Suffered severe injuries from shrapnel. Transferred to Songkhla Hospital for further treatment.

 

2. Sergeant Major First Class Kanchit Sanakorn (43, Nakhon Si Thammarat): Sustained shrapnel wounds to the right shoulder and below the right knee, chest tightness, and ringing in the ears. Transferred to Narathiwat Rajanagarindra Hospital.

 

3. Volunteer Ranger Maruesu Madieyeh (30, Narathiwat): Suffered chest tightness and shrapnel wounds to the thighs. Transferred to Songkhla Hospital.

 

4. Volunteer Ranger Sornarit Nuntajan (26, Narathiwat): Sustained injuries to the left hip, head, shoulders, and genital area, along with chest tightness. Transferred to Songkhla Hospital.

 

5. Volunteer Ranger Saharee Yupona (34, Narathiwat): Shrapnel injuries to the left cheek and arm, chest tightness, and hearing impairment. Transferred to Narathiwat Rajanagarindra Hospital.

 

6. Volunteer Ranger Adisak Noonet (38, Nakhon Si Thammarat): Experienced chest tightness and hearing impairment. Sent for additional examination at Narathiwat Rajanagarindra Hospital.

 

7. Volunteer Ranger Ammar Duerapo (29, Narathiwat): Suffered chest tightness and hearing impairment. Sent for additional examination at Narathiwat Rajanagarindra Hospital.

 

Security forces sealed off the area to ensure public safety and worked to gather evidence and identify those responsible. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or objects to the local security hotline.

 

This incident underscores ongoing security concerns in Narathiwat, which has faced sporadic violence in recent years. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack while providing support to the injured soldiers and their families.
