Looking forward do U.S. expats face the risk of retaliation by nations burned by Trump?

Columbia caved because they were clearly in the wrong.  Every nation on this planet has sovereign rights as to who they allow to enter and for how long.  The US is no different.  And every nation clearly has the right to deport a foreign national that has been arrested for committing a crime and entered illegally to start with.

Columbia prez tried to be macho and stand up to Trump.  Trump said OK let's wreck your economy for being an <deleted>.  Colombian prez realize the backlash of a trashed economy might end with him removed from office and dropped the charade of outrage.  Sanity prevailed.  Trump was right.

I know it's hard for you to accept that last sentence.

First of all, flippin' learn how to spell COLOMBIA.

Even the official white house communications spelled it wrong which is kind of a hint at the level of idiots working there under Trump.

I am no fan of Petro from the left or Trump for outer space.

Petro had a right to be offended by the use of military planes (unnecessary fascism theater) which is a big change and also the reports of inhumane treatment of the deportees were valid points of diplomatic discussion.

You're right Petro overplayed his hand as he can't afford to have his economy ruined.

So agreed Trump won this hand.

But the world is watching Trump acted the ugly Yanqui bully when just talking first without threats would have gotten the same result, so Trump degrades the American brand internationally.

Trump in no way represents sanity.

Humiliating Colombia, a proud nation, when it wasn't even necessary in the first place, is going to plant poison anti-American seeds there and all over Latin America.

How will they react? They'll pivot even more to China.

What's the alternative?  Continue on Biden's "sell out America and let migrants destroy he place" route?  It seems like there's really no other choice, if people want America to turn around.

America has spent years allowing other countries and nationalities to benefit at their cost, of course, if they want to reverse that, those people are going to lose out.

Remember when I called you out for spelling Denali incorrectly?  Or have you conveniently forgotten?

No, you just want that to happen because of how much you hate Trump.

Trivial sheit. COLOMBIA is an important country and if you know the first thing about the Colombian people, you would know they're particularly sensitive about dumb gringos spelling the name of their country wrong. For that to come from the White House really is notable. Hmm. Now I wonder if it was intentional disrespect. You know like when Trumpists would intentionally mispronounce Kamala.

Then I guess native Alaskans are also sensitive having their Denali misspelled by a know-it-all American patriot that places Colombia above Alaska.

To the title ...

(didn't read OP or the thread)

The USA is self sufficient, as can feed & energize itself.  It doesn't need any other country, so no repercussions would ever effect the USA.

Total isolation would be the best thing for the USA ... IMHO

Especially if manufacturing returned, and the rest of the illegal immigrants got deported.

But that has to happen within the next 12 years, or it never will.

With bad players like China, the U.S. is wise to keep a good relationship with the good players.  That includes fair trade and military alliances.  The U.S. is not entirely self sufficient because modern technology requires certain products like rare earth minerals that are lacking or prohibitively expensive to produce.  IMO, isolationism is a dangerous path for the U.S. to take.

At present, China is the only country the USA benefits from.  Best to keep the close & friendly.

If China quit all trade with the USA, it would be a major set back.  If the rest of the world quit trading with the USA, it wouldn't even be noticed.  A few rich folks would lose a bit of their bottom line, and hat's about it.   IMHO

Not talking about specific cases yet, but in nations hurt by punitive Trump trade war tariffs or barbaric treatment of their nationals by U.S. immigration, do you think things may get ugly in certain countries for U.S. expats?

For example say he hits a country with 50 or 100 percent tariffs and the local economy crashes because of it. The people will know the pain comes from America. Wouldn't it be natural in such cases for the people or even governments to take out their anger on the Americans they see, the ones that live there? Even if ironically, those Americans may be very anti-Trump.

Do you ever ask yourself why the POTUS has the power to impose tariffs?

Perhaps.  I mean, look at the amount of energy the US propaganda machine puts into demonizing all countries which competes with the US and the West on the world stage, which include Russia, China, Iran, DPRK, and perhaps any and all BRICS nations, but especially the first four.  A majority of Westerners viscerally hate the citizens from these countries sight unseen. The assumption but many Westerners is that Russians, Chinese, Persians, and North Koreans are sub-human and don't deserve the respect afforded to a cockroach.

Now - turn that around and extend it.  Envision the citizens of countries "burned by Trump" (and all previous US administrations) and envision how their citizens may feel toward all US citizens?  Suddenly perhaps you have a majority of those citizens inculcated to despise all citizens of the US?  And ironically those countries now would include the countries of former "allies" of the US!

My suggestions to those who worry about such things is to look deep within yourself and work on your own ingrained prejudices and embedded hatreds for other ethnicities and citizens of other nations. Understand that the average citizen of any nation-state is not an extension of their government's foreign policy objectives - most average people are just trying to get by and enjoy a modicum of happiness in this life.  Try becoming a global citizen, a member of the world village instead of a cheerleader for your own ravenous nations.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     (insert confused and laugh emojis here)                 😕 😀

Absolutely. Why should the EU view American passports, imports, or policies favorably while the MAGA hats wish them ill? Why should the Philippines not tilt to China if it becomes clear that the Americans are no better? All things change in time, and MAGA seems to be intent on rewrite all of the international norms at play -- of course there will be a reaction.

There are some norms that need to be rewriten  Like the one where the USA defends the fleckless Europeans.

Greece 2019. They were plenty PO'd about the US, suddenly turning 180 degrees and allowing Kurdish allies against ISIS, to be attacked by Erdogan's Turkey. Thank you Donald Trump.

The Greek people themselves were fine. It was the security, immigration arriving and leaving . Heavier still if you were crossing the land border, Istanbul to Thessalonica. All it took was a phone call from Erdogan and Trump was licking the bootheels of a ethno populist strongman.  One which, it should be noted, had allowed, made money from ISIS oil shipments plus funneled Syrian/Iraqi refugees through Turkey to the EU.

How this would play out with four years of a raging Trump administration is guesswork. Expats would be advised to have a plan B (and C). As years go by the once friendly locals might start throwing rocks.

It did not take long for Filipinos to see Duterte's overtures to China was a major mistake.  Most Filipinos I know both here and in their home country have a special affinity for America.  I doubt that relationship will change anytime soon.

This has only just begun.

Colombia caved to Trump's threats but not every country is going to cave as easily. I heard that Trump was going to order that Colombian's US bank accounts be frozen. If he did outrageous stuff like that surely tit for tat against Americans could happen. Stay tuned.

If this happened to more than one country, the others would simply decide to switch to using another system of trade that excludes US Dollar. If that happens, US economy would collapse in a week.

So self-sufficient other countries hold trillions of Dollars of its debt, which is massively increasing every second...

US possibly could be self sufficient. But that would mean a massive downgrade in living standards that rely nearly entirely on cheap imported stuff from China and labour from pretty much everywhere.

That said - what Trump has done by deporting criminals - that is the absolutely right thing to do which should have been done a long time ago, and should continue happening, not only in US but everywhere.

He's upset that criminals are being handcuffed. Not coincidentally, this is the same pearl-clutching ruse the commie leftist potentates in Colombia and Brazil are trying to use to justify their deconstructionist faux outrage. They prefer decent people being victimized by crime, over criminal illegals being handcuffed on their repatriation flights -- or even apprehended at all!

Leftists gonna leftist. But we knew that. President Trump has a knack for exposing them for what they are. 🍿
