I heard about that phenomenon more than a decade ago. But unsure what actually makes them fight so bitterly.
persimmon Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Rule # 1 when in Thailand - never get into a fight with a local . Obviously the drunken Russian has never watched Thai boxing . 1

Most westerners would knock 7 bells out of them if they'd fight fair. 15 to 1 is hardly fair. 1

I was listening to a great band with a great singer. She/he really dolled themself up. Those tramps stamps let us knows that it's a real classy item. It's good that there is interest from the elderly farang segment, because the Thais certainly are not interested. 1

If they want more tourism and to make travel hassle free - introducing more visas would not be a good idea. If they demanded that visa success depended on being a certain calibre of person - many won't be able to travel and others will just fake the documents. Brawls go on in Thailand regularly - often between Thai's - university and technical college rivalry can be deadly - we just don't see it. If Thailand wants more tourists with easy access - increased bad behaviour goes with the territory. There is no "...university and technical college rivalry...", at least none that results in armed clashes. It is certainly not a "town vs. gown" or class conflict situation. For many years now there have been periodic fights between students from rival technical colleges in Bangkok involving deadly weapons resulting in deaths and serious injuries. To say "...we just don't see it." is inaccurate as well. The incidents are widely reported on in the local media. 3 5

There certainly is - kids have killed each other. 8 minutes ago, CMHomeboy78 said: To say "...we just don't see it." is inaccurate as well. The incidents are widely reported on in the local media. And just how many foreigners read/access local media? My mate's 18 year old son is attending Technical College in Bangkok at the moment and he regularly reports clashes.

The incident, captured in a 1.04-minute clip shared by the Facebook page Speednews Phuket, occurred yesterday, January 27, at the end of Bangla Road, Kathu district, Phuket. The video shows the tourists engaged in a fierce brawl, surrounded by onlookers comprising both foreigners and Thai nationals. Many bystanders recorded the incident on their mobile phones, with some even cheering the combatants. However, security personnel and other tourists witnessing the altercation stepped in to separate the two parties before the situation could escalate further, eventually leading to both tourists dispersing. Following the video’s circulation online, numerous viewers have expressed concerns regarding the implications of the free visa policy for tourists. Critics argue that while the policy facilitates tourism, it should be accompanied by stringent laws to prevent such incidents from recurring, reported KhaoSod. The sentiment reflects a broader concern that without adequate legal frameworks, similar situations may arise in the future. Fortunately, this particular incident did not result in serious injuries or fatalities. In similar news, a night of partying on Bangla Road turned into chaos when a drunken Russian tourist was hospitalised after a violent altercation with security guards. The incident unfolded at Oscar Bar, Patong on December 18 last year. Police were called to the scene at 11.50pm, where they found 31 year old Russian national Evgenii Kozlov seriously injured after a scuffle with bar security. According to initial reports, Kozlov, heavily intoxicated, climbed onto the stage and began dancing, disrupting the bar’s operations. Security guards, 30 year old Chalermphon Suphannaphon, 28 year old Thammakach Sukho, and 19 year old Watcharaphon Laowong intervened, removing him from the stage. The situation escalated when the Russian man reportedly began acting aggressively towards other patrons, prompting complaints. As the guards attempted to escort him out, a struggle ensued, culminating in a violent brawl. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-28 After opening the gates to Thailand, hordes of riffraff from all over the world arrive. So don't complain, Thailand, but shape your visas.
