Overstay and fly back home.

I am ready for various denigrating comments and I can also understand them: but I have never hurt anyone, but I could have done it to myself. In my own small way I also contributed to the economy of the small village in which I was hidden like a mouse: this will probably be my only post, but I'll try to ask your opinion anyway: I have an overstay situation close to 18 years:  20,000 thb are ready, the plane ticket is ready: if I arrive at Suvarnabhumi without being stopped along the way, I check in, go through immigration, I get the well-deserved ban and goodbye Thailand. Is everything correct or could I have problems at the airport? Let me start by saying that I have no pending charges of any kind. Thanks again.

As others will post.....be very careful making your way to airport.

Once in Bangkok the rail link to BKK would be one option..

That's how it's supposed to work, but with such a long overstay, an important question is if they can still find a record of your entry from 18 years ago. And how straightforward it will be to transfer your stamps, as they will need to stamp you out in a passport that is currently valid for travel (and put the overstay and ban stamps in that passport as well).

 

Your passport from back then has certainly expired after 18 years, so I'd assume that you got a new one that is currently valid but doesn't have any Thai stamps in it? Which kind of visa and permission to stay did you have when you went on overstay 18 years ago? Do you still have the passport that has your Thai stamps in your possession and can take it along?

Your understanding is correct.  That is how it should work.  There was a concerning article from December at Phuket Airport about an arrest in the actual airport for overstay, but no details emerged that I know of.

You have done your homework and i hope you manage to exit as planned. It must have been stressful  avoiding immigration for so long perhaps  however not as stressfull as reporting and jumping through immigration directives from a rural location. Good luck

18 years omg that's a lot of your life you are walking away from whatever the reason I wish you the best in which must be a scary time for you and hope you resettle back in your home country successfully

I personally know of a case much longer than yours. I don't want to add to your anxiety but given how long its been, a lack of records might mess you up and anything that doesn't go routinely opens up the possibility that the normal process doesn't take place.  Be prepared for the possibility of being detained until you have got it sorted out.

No sympathy whatsoever.  While most of us have responsibly paid for our extensions every year and completed our 90 day reports.  30 days in a Thai jail before you leave would be appropriate.

There is a specific desk that deals with overstay. Collecting fines, issue of overstay stamp, bans etc.

It should happen as explained above unless you get an overzealous immigration agent who would only prolong your exit for a photoshoot but that's about it !

 

Take a mask if embarrassment is an issue!

Kind of agree as have personally kept by the book for the duration, albeit guy has probably paid for his procrastination in spades with the stress of it all. Imagine it is fairly easy for some to initially sweep it under the rug, then all of a sudden you’ve overstayed for many years.

Why wish a criminal 'the best'  with no respect for the laws of the country? Hopefully he's banned for life from coming back, he has given no excuses. He must have renewed his passport once so it appears they don't check immigration over stays

Three years would be a better deterrent, obviously 20. 000 baht is not, that's far less than he would have spent doing things legally for the past 18 years, so nowhere near enough of a fine,

Whether or not you agree with his behavior i think we can all tip the hat to him for managing to not get stabbed in the back by anyone in his 18 years of overstay in this cutthroat country.

You made your bed and should wear the consequences.  As  has been pointed out, if you manage to depart without much hassel, you will have cheated the system for decades for a pittance. Of course, a lack of evidence of arrival may result in delays and further action against you.

 

Claiming you have " contributed to the economy" is a joke. Any pennies you may have scraped from abroad over the years would not have offset your burden on locals. Freeloaders don't contribute.
