A high-speed chase between rival groups ended in disaster in the early hours of 3 February, when a pickup truck driver lost control and crashed into a municipal arch in Pathum Thani province, killing three people and seriously injuring three others.

The incident occurred at around 03:00 on Sema-Fah Kram Road in Khu Khot, Lam Luk Ka District. Emergency services rushed to the scene, where they found a severely damaged Toyota Vigo pickup truck that had collided with the ceremonial arch in front of a residential area. Six people were trapped inside, with two pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police reports, a 19-year-old man had been driving the pickup truck while pursuing a motorcycle carrying members of a rival group. Witnesses stated that the driver lost control at high speed, veered off the road, and crashed into the arch.

The deceased were identified as Sirichai 17, who worked with his father repairing motorbikes, and Atthathawi 19, the driver of the pickup truck. Another victim, Thapakorn 22, later died from his injuries in hospital.

Three other individuals remain in critical condition at a local hospital. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting tools to extricate the injured from the wreckage before transporting them to medical facilities.

Security footage from the area has provided crucial evidence, showing the pickup truck chasing a motorcycle before the crash. Police Colonel Prasit Sombunjit, Deputy Superintendent of Khu Khot Police Station, confirmed that investigators are analysing the footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the exact cause of the crash.

A 21-year-old woman, Pimrapas, whose boyfriend was allegedly being targeted by the group in the pickup truck, revealed that tensions had been escalating for weeks. “They kept waiting outside the market where I work, looking for my boyfriend. I had already told them to stop, but they wouldn’t listen,” she said.

The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital for autopsy. Authorities are continuing their investigation and will decide on legal proceedings once all evidence has been reviewed.
