Irishman Caught Napping After Break-in at Pattaya Cannabis Shop

In a peculiar twist of events, Pattaya police have arrested an Irish national who allegedly broke into a local cannabis shop, only to enjoy the spoils of his crime until he passed out on the premises. The incident occurred in the early hours of February 2, leading to a prompt investigation and subsequent arrest.

 

Andrew John Mathews, a 23-year-old from Belfast, stands accused of smashing a window to gain entry into the shop, where he indulged in marijuana products before dozing off. The entire escapade was captured on the shop's CCTV, providing clear evidence of the break-in.

 

After the store owner lodged a complaint, law enforcement officials issued an arrest warrant from Pattaya Provincial Court. The Tourist and Pattaya Police quickly tracked down Mathews and took him into custody on February 6.

During questioning, Mathews reportedly confessed to the break-in, admitting he took cannabis but nothing else. He recounted how he smoked the marijuana until he fell asleep and, upon waking, continued to consume more while changing his sleeping location to elude detection. Mathews blamed impaired judgment from the cannabis for his actions, according to reports from The Pattaya News.

 

He is now facing legal proceedings at Pattaya City Police Station. It is important to note that while cannabis has been decriminalized in Thailand since 2022, breaking and entering remains a serious offense, reported The Thaiger.

23 years old and on his holidays. 

 

Hardly crime of the century is it. He could have robbed the entire shop but settled for personal consumption.

 

The weed shop should be maximising the publicity. Our gear is so good that people break in to get at it.
