Factory made housing

I am looking at building a small retirement property .   Not a big fan of concrete boxes with rising damp .   Occasionally I  have seen properties built off the ground. also  something that look like prefabricated units.   

Not so much the small units seen at resort type rental accommodation. But something potentially portable. 

Anyone considered or looked at these units or maybe owns said items.

There's a new container village on prime location in Pattaya's Sugar Beach. It was sold out fast.

I live in a factory built steel house supplied by SCG Heim from Japan, The walls are insulated and then clad with a reflective tile , the windows are double glazed and the whole thing comes as modules that are then attached on site.  The units are places on a traditional footing which is 45 cm above ground level.

Thanks for posting this. I am looking for a suitable small accommodation for a couple of relatives and this seems to tick the boxes at an affordable price. Plus, it seems that you can transport them if the need arises.

I also went to see this to stay over night but was sold out. Very cool place!

All the options I've seen, are pretty pricey.  If any, I like the 'capsule' homes available from CN.  Priced right, BUT, shipping ot TH is a ????

 

And transportable, if having a land dispute 

 

Although, pretty sure wife & myself could build something far cheaper, if not contracted out, although not transportable, than anything I've seen offered.

 

Our 'base' ~106m² present home, was contracted for ฿1.1M, just over 2 yrs ago.

 

Half million THB builds quite a bit of living quarters vs the price of ~40 ish m² that the prefabs offer.

Surely, Thailand must have some tiny pre-fab home manufacturers.  It would be a perfect solution for anyone who buys a 30 year land lease.  Buy the lot, make sure utilities are available, and install your little house on some sort of foundation.  When your lease is up, negotiate with the land-owner about renewal. And if you can't reach an agreement, pick up your house and move. 

 

I've seen condos going together seemingly made of pre-fabricated units.  Haul each unit up with a big crane and bolt them all together.

 

In America these days, I think you can even buy small little houses on Amazon.  They come in a big box.  And when it arrives, you just unbox it, unload the walls to expend it, and there you are.

Interestingly, not a new thing.  Sears-Roebuck used to sell catalog pre-fab home kits in the 20's and 30's.  The kits would be shipped "Railway Express', mostly to locations in the mid-west and California.  Some still stand.

I'm pretty sure I've seen some of those.  They're still around.  Back then, though, they just shipped you the materials.  Putting it all together was your problem.  

 

And I think there was a time when an aluminum was all the rage for building.  One of the aluminum companies had a kit for all aluminum houses, if I remember correctly.  I've seen one of those.
