Foreigners don't come because it's a "family friendly" place, they come to get stupid drunk, maybe get high, chase after younger women (or ladyboys), and indulge all kinds of perverted fantasies. These same people go home and brag about their stay and how it's a lawless society where anything goes, then the cycle repeats itself. I mean people aren't seriously deluded into believing that Pattaya is anything more than a World Class City of Sin, right?

Have you ever been to Pattaya....or Thailand?

If I trip on broken pavement at home I can sue the council...I tried to explain that to a Thai person...they thought it was a joke...if that was the case in Thailand the dangerous sidewalks would be fixed rapidly...dream on I tell myself.

I’m glad I don’t have to get around with a walking stick or wheelchair. There’d be nowhere I could go without competing with the traffic. Very few pedestrian friendly sidewalks in Thailand.

I think it's Pattaya's version of Darwinism. If you can survive, say, five years of strolling along the city's many streets with no pavements/sidewalks, as well as the more up-market tourist areas with pavements/sidewalks that are often atrociously maintained, then you'll find that you fit right in here, bulletproof. Alas, many do not make the grade and end up going the way of the dodo. lol

Do you mean like this?

(look for the 23 seconds left-to-go, green pedestrian signal at the start of the video)

I would not even give a thought of coming to Thailand if I was in a wheelchair or have a walking stick.

There are better places in the world to go, more suitable if you're restricted.

Pattaya does have law enforcement of sorts. At least 3 to 4 days, on my walk on the beach side of Beach Road, I see Pattaya Police hard at work. Right in front for the Police Headquarters (Beach Road beside Central Festival) the police stop every motor bike ridden be a farang to check papers and enforce helmet laws etc. If you stand there and watch as I have many times it is easy to see that this law enforcement completely targets and discriminatory toward farang. NO ONE Thai is stopped , not even the ones with 4 people on one motorbike none with helmets.

Is this the way Thai Tourism attracts people to Thailand? It seems the the Tourism Authority and the Thai Police are sending mixed messages. I politely asked a Thai police officer writing tickets, in the Thai language, why only farang were being stopped. I got no answer and left the area before I could be arrested  and jacked up for a 1000 baht fine.

I live here and have for years. The nonsense doesn't affect me that much . I keep a 1000 baht note paper clipped to my motorcycle papers under the seat . I have NEVER been ticketed. I have had to replace that 1000 baht note several times. However, this targeting of farang might affect the decisions that tourists make regarding their next vacation destination.

Just for fun, visit "transparency.org " and see where Thailand ranks on the "World Corruption Index". I'll save you the time.....108th! Maybe that is why the Russians come here. Russia ranks 141st on the same index. The Russians feel at home in Thailand.

A straightforward, potential remedy could be the installation of pedestrian footbridges, similar to those that line Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. Despite these structures proving effective elsewhere, Pattaya surprisingly lags behind in implementing such pedestrian safety measures.

A pedestrian bridge at Thappraya/Thepprasit road intersection would be wonderful. If every owner of a condo in the near vicinity,  including me, was levied $100, I’m sure there’d be more than enough to cover construction.

That can be said of all Thailand.

It really isn't the leaders fault

The massive problem is there is no real Master plan it is just build as you go, no oversight and those in charge specifically the job given is based on nepotism so stepping on toes come with a heavy price so today it continues.

Take roads like Klang and Nua, the have put the wires under able to lay and create sidewalks but still you got electrical poles here and there!

They not have a Master plan a standard nor understand the use of Utility Easement to obtain a standard.  Then you got sidewalks cement bricks laid on top of sand when it rain water sip in between after time creates a sink hole and undermines the walkway.

You hear a lot of noise from leaders and that is the major problem no matter who is in charge they all become corrupt to the core.🤣

But it’s a WORLD CLASS TOURIST DESTINATION…..that can’t make the sidewalks/footpaths safe and walkable without constant vigilance …

Pattaya may be worse than other places, but in reality every urban area in Thailand has major issues with sidewalks and they are a hazard waiting to happen. If you're not constantly paying attention and scanning the surface in front of you it's a recipe for a twisted ankle, a broken foot, a torn ligament, or a very nasty fall. Add in motorbikes on the sidewalk, low hanging signs and wires, pushcarts and vendors and you had better be very aware out there. It can be a battlefield! Not to mention the hazardous zebra crossings.

And no, Buddha, God, nor any other supernatural force will not protect you, if you are not protecting yourself. Pedestrians beware.

Pattaya's Pedestrian Perils: Crumbling Walkways and Traffic Chaos.

The city is marked by hazardous crossings, deteriorating footpaths, and a glaring lack of traffic enforcement, making it a perilous adventure for those on foot.

Even controlled crossings with traffic lights fail to guarantee safety, as a surprising number of motorbikes and cars disregards the green pedestrian signal. This forces walkers to navigate cautiously, watching for reckless drivers who flout the law with astonishing regularity.

Compounding the issue are the persistent obstructions caused by parked motorbikes and bustling street vendors, which regularly spill over onto the footpaths. Such obstacles can force pedestrians onto the roads themselves, raising risks in already traffic-heavy zones.

Nothing New here ,No matter where one goes it's the same in in Every City /town and  Village .

It's their culture They Do what they want to do and don't care Where they do it . Business work and play  and /or corruption.

It's because they have no OSHA. Oh, and I hear there's another country just got rid of their OSHA as well. Wait for those sidewalks to become just as hazardous.

Trump appears hellbent on getting rid of every consumer protection and every environmental protection that ever existed, which makes him determined to lower the quality of life for everyone in America. That's just who he is, he is not a man of his word and he is NOT a man of the people. He is simply a very sad and very reckless fool.

That's a very ridiculous statement when old people & children can be killed & if it was your child mowed down by a recklous taxi or  motorbike nobody should shed a tear..is that what your saying ?

The problem should be fixed or the country will never progress from being a 3rd rate free 4 all laughing stock of a low grade tourist destination...

It's very obvious to those of us that have some objectivity that he's an extraordinarily miserable man, he does not find his life fulfilling, and he's in search of something, what I certainly don't know. But I would not trade my position for his, for all the fortune that he has. No way on earth, no thank you. He lives inside Hell and Hell lives inside his heart, mind, soul and brain from my point of view and many others. No jealousy, on any level.

Shows the I.Q. of the average American to vote a convicted felon in as POTUS! A dangerous man who will do the USA no good at all as a responsible leader.

exactly,    tourists come to get drunk,  find bang bang and drink more .... then go back home to work again and tell the work mates they had a great time pi_ssed and bang bang this and that.

so essentially,  you end up getting lower and lower class of tourists year after year because of word of mouth.

reckless  !    ........   I agree .....      somethings he's implementing are good for Americans and some things are stupid ....   but,  that's what a democracy is ... not everyone agrees.

Simply put, this place isn't made for pedestrians.  That's why people drive their motorbikes distances that we'd normally walk in our own countries.  I take bolt motorbike taxis or songthaews for anything over 200 meters.  I also think the people who pretend they can ride a bicycle here are <deleted> as well, they just <deleted> up the traffic flow and cause more danger while inhaling <deleted>ty exhaust doing their cardio.  I love using a bicycle and walking to get around major cities in the US, but I've adjusted to the reality here, it's dangerous to both you and others.  In 20 years here it hasn't improved, and how would they even approach adding footpaths to these sois that can barely fit 2 cars going in opposite directions.  When in rome... post on an expat forum and complain that it's not the netherlands...

Just think what they could have accomplished fixing infrastructure during Covid, I was in Pattaya a couple times and the streets were empty. But too many boys putting the money in their pockets, it will always be Pattaya.

I travelled back at the end of September 2022, and it was still mega quiet. Even the locals and taxi drivers were in despair at the lack of action during the Covid YEARS... and then not much longer they started digging up Second Road... then Walking Street... then the beach! Morons!
