You don't have to, but many will. The only way peace would ever come to the world is eradication of all narcissistic, psychopathic leaders and those who follow them. All countries that have terrorists have a much higher percentage of people living in fear, who's only hope is somehow getting rid of those that promote hate and violence, so they can live in peace not worrying if tomorrow could be the day a bomb takes them out.  The only way to get rid of them is violence, as many are so disturbed in their thinking they actually think they are in the right. The only way this will happen is if people who want peace get rid of those that don't. You don't negotiate with a terrorist. You eliminate them, as soon as possible, with no media coverage. Once you cut off the head, the body soon fails.

Multiple motor bike and van travellers have crossed Iran without incident Youtube is full of them.

I suspect they flew a drone or got too near a military facility.

There are many duel Iranian citizens in fear of visiting their family in Iran because the hubris of a few who think, 'I'm Immune' well 'no sh***t' they now find themselves as a bargaining chip, well advised by their government not to do it.

They let you into the country, all documents inspected of course, and a few days later they arrest you.  That's the way it's been for decades.

About 20 years ago a spirited lad at BBC was at odds with W Bush declaring an "axis of evil" and set out to prove him wrong, just because.  The first sentence of this post is what happened in Iran.

Other countries were Cuba, and N Korea (I think, I missed that episode).

By the end of the show he came to the full realization that it was a bad idea.

Valid point...    ... Nearly...    there is quite a void between remarkable and reckless, and there are area's where I'd consider it quite reckless to travel as a 'roving tourist'...  

 

Those areas would of course include the Swat Valley Area of Pakistan, Iran (all of it), area's of Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Haiti.... and also Myanmar right now,..
