Georgealbert Posted Sunday at 10:04 PM Posted Sunday at 10:04 PM Picture from responders. A 58-year-old woman drowned after attempting to swim across a canal in Samut Prakan while intoxicated. Despite being stopped once by a concerned bystander, she later returned and is believed to have drowned due to exhaustion. The incident occurred on the night of 15 February 2025. At approximately 22:30, a civil defence volunteer, 68-year-old Mr. Nikom, encountered the woman near the pier in front of Wat Mongkhon Kothawas. She appeared heavily intoxicated and suddenly jumped into Khlong Dan canal, insisting she was swimming across to reach her lover’s house on the opposite bank. Mr. Nikom managed to pull her from the water and prevent her from continuing her dangerous attempt. However, the following morning, on 16 February, police at Khlong Dan Station were alerted to a body floating in the canal near Moo 13, Khlong Dan Subdistrict, Bang Bo District. Officers, along with rescue teams from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and medical staff from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, arrived at the scene. The woman’s body was found floating face down in the middle of the canal, which is approximately 100 metres wide. Local residents assisted in retrieving the body, which was later identified as Ms. Nichsanun, aged 58. Her skin had turned pale, and her limbs were stiff, suggesting she had been dead for around 12 hours. No signs of injury or foul play were found. Investigators suspect that after initially being rescued, she returned later that night and attempted to swim across again but became exhausted and drowned. Authorities have gathered witness statements and evidence at the scene. The deceased’s body has been sent for further examination at Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital. Police are now working to contact her family to proceed with legal formalities. -- 2025-02-17 5
