Chiang Rai House Fire Leaves Family Displaced
Picture from responders. A devastating fire completely destroyed a large wooden house in the San Khoang Luang community at 08:35 on the morning of 20 February. The Chiang Rai Municipal Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office received an emergency call reporting the blaze in Soi 5, Tambon Rob Wiang, Muang District. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a large wooden house engulfed in flames. Given the intensity of the fire, additional support was requested from nearby local government units and agencies to assist in controlling the situation. Under the leadership of Mayor Wanchai Jongsuthanamanee, key officials, including Sub-Lieutenant Natthasaran Insaen, the Chief of the Secretary’s Office, and Phapan Changkaew, head of the administrative division, mobilised a firefighting team of 40 personnel and multiple fire trucks to the location. The team worked for approximately one hour and thirty minutes to contain the fire and ensure it did not spread to neighbouring buildings. Then it took an additional hour before finally extinguishing the flames and all hot spots within the remains of the structure. Despite the firefighting action, the house suffered extensive damage, and all possessions within were lost. Additionally, two vehicles parked nearby were also affected by the fire and destroyed. By 11.00 the firefighting operation was officially concluded, but investigations into the cause of the fire and the extent and costs of damages are ongoing, with local police from the Muang Chiang Rai Police Station conducting the assessments. Local authorities are working to provide support to the family displaced by this unfortunate event. -- 2025-02-21
