They don't think nor look, they just go. Prerequisite of thought, one must first possess a brain! It amazes me how a Thai gets run over and just gets up like nothing happened, they don't seem to feel pain..... where there is no sense there is no feeling.

At any 'cross roads' on a 'smaller road' always stop regardless of right of way, there is nearly always another vehicle driven by someone who's outstandingly stupid and will just blow across without slowing... its astonishing.

Driving yesterday... Dusk, so visibility was low... that kind of awkward witching hour where some of their lights on, some don't some have their full beam on etc...  

Two lanes in each direction, traffic flowing at about 60km...  lane markers non-existent or very unclear...  road works in places so we're switching from one side to another (no central devide)

I'm following a lorry figuring he's my safety barrier if another idiot wants a head on....

 

A small Vios following decides the line of traffic is too slow...  Goes to overtake, nearly has a head on 'cos the oncoming car is outside of his lane...  Swerves inside, goes to undertake, nearly hits a parked car... swerves back to the outside and overtakes into oncoming traffic which manages to move out of their way.... 

Less than 5 mins later, this idiot in a Vios is turning left onto a smaller road (clearly close to his destination)....  

...  The mentality of these drivers - IMO - its just simple emptiness, there's nothing there, no thinking, just do, and when they do the measure of stupidity that comes with the lack of any concept of consequence is clear to see.

There is no 'cause and consequence' taught as part of schooling or parenting here, very little thought is given to 'what happens if I do this'. 

I ride a motorbike here in Bangkok (15 years now) and you need to watch for the possible 'actions' of everyone at all times.

The only way to survive here on the road, is to be patient, have eyes in the back of your head, drive with caution, and always, and I mean always watch out of the other guy. Chances are, he does not have much driving skill, nor patience, nor reason, nor common sense. You cannot be too careful on the road here. Especially considering that the toy police offer no traffic safety, prevention, enforcement of the law, or concern toward the prosecution of very reckless drivers. 

 

Those of us with driving skill, and a strong desire for not only survival, but the avoidance of terrible injury, are constantly scanning the road, in front of us, beside us, and behind us. There are an exceptionally high number of reckless fools on these roads, and it is the only way to preserve our lives, and those of our families, and friends, who may be driving with us, and depending on us. 

 

When I was growing up, we took drivers education courses. They showed us horrendous films, of semi trucks plowing into cars, and literally obliterating everything in their path. They also showed us graphic images of head on collisions. 120mph impacts. Even as a young kid, it made quite an impression. It was horrific, and it was hard to get those images out of your head afterwards. But, it left a lasting impression, and when I started driving, I understood it was serious business, and that it was a very dangerous thing to do. Also, I had the benefit of my lovely Mom, as my instructor. She spent countless hours in the car with me giving me tips, advice, and teaching me driving etiquette, courtesy and respect toward other drivers. That was priceless, and I doubt many Thai kids benefit from that kind of guidance. 

 

I see people driving here, with their families in the car, and doing things, and taking the kinds of risks no rational or sane person with common sense would do. What for? To gain one minute? Why take those risks? What is the logic? Often, when I am cruising along at 100kph, someone cuts right in front of me. Or someone comes out from the side road, right in front of me. I have to slam on my brakes, or change lanes to avoid him. I look in my rearview mirror, and there is nobody behind me. So, if he had waited two seconds, he would have had completely safe passage onto the highway. What gives? Where is the intelligence, caution, and prudence? Where is the common sense? What about just the survival instinct?

In the follow up videos, why after an accident do the Thais instantly start a fight? Are Thais that deranged and violant that the instant response to an accident is to start a fight.

That happens often here, I am the last in a whole line of vehicles and someone has to pull out in front of me to gain two seconds.

I did stand ín the row of read light. It turned green. Nobody moved, I see forward, just 4 (four) cars go thorough the red light. 

Regularly they overtake ín the unforeseeable curves.

They just do not realise they should drive on the inside lane unless overtaking.

On a 3 lane carriageway the vast majority of Thai drivers are so stupid that they hog the

middle and outsides lanes all the time.

Why do heavy lorries (trucks) ploughing along at low speed hog the outside lane? Every time I used to overtake and pull back to the inside lane my wife would ask why did I that. I would ask why not. Her reply the inside lane is bumpy.

Thats actually the way they are taught... 

 

As I understand it, the inside (left most lane) is tought that its the lane for slower vehicles, lorries etc travelling well below the speed limit and the central lane is the driving lane. 

 

Of course on two lane roads, its quite often that the left lane is in such poor condition that people drive in the right lane.

Around where I live, traffic tends to use the left lane except when overtaking. The fast, racing types, are granted free access to the right hand lane It is not so often that slow trucks use the right hand lane.

The most noticeable examples of bad driving are the corner cutters.

It's almost as though the driver sees a straight line from A - B regardless of the right hand bend/turn.

As many have said. There is absolutely minimal notice taken of the rules of the road.

Something like these is seen about every tenth time we go to run errands. I count myself lucky I don't see it more often because it certainly happens multiple times every day in the Kingdom.

 

Keep your head on a swivel and pretend that every vehicle you see is on a kamikaze mission to wipe you out.
