doc took some samples of blood to check and urine and gave me some  nitrofurantoin tabs so we see how it goes ,unless something more serious I don’t know yet…..

I may go back to doxy not sure about this drug

Nitrofurantoin is an oral antibiotic capsule used to treat and prevent lower urinary tract infections (UTIs) like cystitis. It's effective against most urinary E. coli infections, but not against Pseudomonas, Proteus, and Serratia species. The body quickly filters nitrofurantoin from the blood into urine, concentrating the medicine at the infection site. Common side effects include nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, and drowsiness.

Go to a urologist or a hospital and get scoped , dont mess around it very well could be bladder cancer , if caught early you can do very well in treatment ,

a few days ago ?

I often joke with my friends when they ask how I am ..   usual reply is well  I woke up this morning and didn't pee blood .. so off to a good start ...

Seriously ....

ehhhh  I'd be in the office/clinic/hospital ....asap ...getting a  bladder scope, also known as a cystoscope, a thin, lighted tube that allows a doctor to view the inside of the bladder and urethra.

I had that done ,you could see it on a TV monitor. They pump your bladder full of water so they can get a good look and when they pull the camera out you really have to  run to the WC

Good reliable Doc. No further comments necessary by wannabe docs

My dad, aged 68 at the time, a long time chain smoker had some blood in his urine.  He waited a few weeks before finally telling and letting me take him to the doctor.  Turns out he had cancer of the bladder.  Apparently it is one of the most aggressive cancers.  Early treatment the following monday and they went up through his penis/urethra and were able to cut out the cancer.  no long term effects.  Dad stopped smoking that day.  that to me was the miracle  him stopping smoking.  Now the good thing is, almost immediately after he stopped smoking, and he always was quite a foodie, having owned three restaurants, and he kept remarking how much more taste everything had.  Well I am not surprised.  Breathing in hot searing chemical smoke probably doesn't improve the taste buds!

As above. All drugs have potential  side effects and you should resist the urge to second guess and self prescribe. The safety profile of nitrofurantoin is good.

What type of doctor did you see and where?

Blood in urine can have many causes including bladder/ureter/kidney stones, infection and, most seriously,   bladder cancer for which it is often the only early sign.

Important to be followed by a  urologist.

Yes indeed.

Not too long ago, a UK pal of mine started peeing blood in his urine. After appropriate examination, it was found he had tumours in his bladder. They were painfully removed and were benign.

I saw a tinge of blood in my urine and after a month i retuned to Australia ad went to check it out at the doctors. Found out i had bladder cancer and because i caught it quick and had it removed i was lucky.

When i revisited the doctor he asked if i had my yearly bladder check up over the last five years....I said what? luckily i had the check up and all clear.

Do not ignore the symptoms. See a urologist ASAP.

Bladder cancer has high survival rates if caught early. BCG immunotherapy is one of the most successful cancer therapies.
