Is there such a thing anyway? 99% of the chinese that come do not spend money when here except for shopping things that are cheaper than in their own country. They rarely eat local foods or shop in local stores. I would guess it is because of the sheer numbers showing the Chinese how unsafe and risky Thailand is to come to. Perhaps you are mistaken. Last month it was in all the news that the Chinese were travelling to Japan more than Thailand now and was their top choice in destinations. https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Travel-Leisure/Japan-overtakes-Thailand-as-China-s-most-popular-destination "I would guess it is because of the sheer numbers showing the Chinese how unsafe and risky Thailand is to come to," but these recent scam centres are mainly in Myanmar, and why would any tourists be concerned about scam centres... I can understand the number of scams, in Thailand, but they have known about these for years.

My friend who works in China has told me that the social apps are booming with rhetoric based on this against Thailand or Thai people. Not Myanmar. He also says he knows and talks to many that hae cancelled plans to come to Thailand for holiday based on these fears discussed in their social apps. 1

ChaiyaTH Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Seems the seasonal nazi regime is about to kick off again too: national crackdown on vapes, more foreign business owner being robbed of their business because it is suddenly a illegal 'nominee' thing, talking already again to reduce the 60 days to 30 days and so the list goes on. Mean while zero of actual issues have been resolved by the wonderful unelected government. These people really want to stay stuck in life. Same with this entire tax chaos, like NOTHING has been cleared up 100% while we are in the second freaking year of it already. Same with the cannabis sector, zero has been resolved in terms of setting it up properly (to be sure weed is clean, licensed, taxed etc). It's the same with essentially anything you mention: healthcare, education, pension plans, social plans etc etc etc etc. They have to be the most incompetent people with a lot money for a country, in the world. 1

black tabby12345 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Regarding Chinese visitors to Thailand, their peak time would be around their New Year holidays: lunar new years. And when it is over, they usually started to go home. In the apartment I live in, the same happening. several rooms were checked out this morning(used to be occupied by mainland Chinese). Nothing unusual though...

Purdey Posted February 27 Posted February 27 When I first came to Thailand, the Communist insurgency caused people to worry about going into the countryside. Tourists were worried about going into rural areas. That insurgency was paid for by the Chinese. Now it's a tourism insurgency that doesn't benefit Thai people as much as the TAT seems to think.
spidermike007 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Chinese people can be extremely timid, and they tend to be easily scared by rumors, so the drop in tourism would not surprise me at all. Perhaps the Thai authorities need to stop supporting the Burmese junta?

So, they cracked down on call center scams, and the Chinese didn't bother going to Thailand anymore... What does that tell you about Chinese tourists in Thailand? 😆 1

There have been quite a few boat accidents involving Chinese, so I assume they post these incidents on Chinese social media. I remember a reading a month or so ago a wealthy Chinese man threatened to sue a boat company for "endangering his family's lives" by taking them out on a boat in bad weather and having to be rescued. I have searched for a follow up to this , but can't find anything.

You find what you look for in life.
AustinRacing Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Well it tells me most of the visitors are related to scam or illegal activities. 1
BarraMarra Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Me and a friend did a border run last week to laos. Returning through the Thai border i was refused entry no reason all i got was go back where from ie laos and fly back to bkk. Was i going to be detained for attempting to re - enter after being refused at Nong Khai was i being forced out of Thailand for 2 weeks? i had no spare clothes, no drinks or food all day they certainly know how to treat tourists. 1
sambum Posted February 27 Posted February 27 "The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is dismissing rumors that Chinese tourist numbers have plummeted by 94%. " Well they would do wouldn't they? 1

Its a shake down! You must have dared to do a border run without a thai guide/organised border run. Organised runs grease the guards palms so all runs smooth. I had it many years ago but it was the cambodian side. We were taken into a small hut, surounded by about 8 armed police, passports taken and only given back with a 2,000baht donation.... Never again.
