Very sad. Anybody trying to escape persecution in China would be well advised not to come anywhere near Thailand, especially since Thaksin returned and became de facto leader.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms Thailand’s forced return of at least 40 Uyghurs to China, where they lack due process rights and where Uyghurs have faced persecution, forced labor, and torture. As Thailand’s longstanding ally, we are alarmed by this action, which risks running afoul of its international obligations under the UN Convention Against Torture and the International Convention on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance. This act runs counter to the Thai people’s longstanding tradition of protection for the most vulnerable and is inconsistent with Thailand’s commitment to protect human rights. We urge all governments in countries where Uyghurs seek protection not to forcibly return ethnic Uyghurs to China.

 

China, under the direction and control of the Chinese Communist Party, has committed genocide and crimes against humanity targeting predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other members of ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang. We call on Chinese authorities to provide full access to verify the well-being of the returned Uyghurs on a regular basis. The Thai Government must insist and fully verify continuously that Chinese authorities protect the Uyghurs’ human rights.

They must have feared their number was up the moment Thaksin returned from Dubai. The message is, to anyone, anywhere, trying to escape persecution, don't come to Thailand. Sooner or later you will be betrayed by people here who are easily bought off.

I assume that Beijing called in the Thai ambassador for consultation or the Chinese ambassador presented its compliments to the competent Thai authorities on this issue. 

Without massive pressure by the red brethren of the North this would not have happened. Thailand could have done so much better as Thailand should decide what happens inside Thailand without "friendly advice" by the real power brokers. 

A poor statement by the present government, totally unnecessary but in line with other human rights issue. Remember the Tak Bai incident where they "perished" 70+ in the South of Thailand and the case never reached the bench due to the expiration of limitations of law.

I don’t think Thailand really cares about what Human Rights groups around the world think.

 

And of course they are sucking up to China in preference to the USA. Why wouldn’t they? They obviously think China will be a stable and advantageous ally in many different ways and we all know how the USA treats its allies. It’s a no brainer that Thailand would prefer to be in China’s orbit.

The Chinese government wanted the Thai authorities to cut off public utilities, such as electricity, water supply, and internet signals, used by call center gangs operating on the Myanmar side.
