REZUM again?

Had it done in August 2022. Now prostate problems arise again only after 2 1/2 years. Do it again after only 2 1/2 years? According to my statistical life expectancy I would have to do it 4 more times. Ridiculus! What to do?

How was the recovery last time?   I underwent an ablation a few weeks ago.

Agree rezum pile of <deleted>,knocks the surface off  ,not enough taken out.had second turp done few months ago uk,really good,hardly any bleeding,sex not affectedin /out same day if elected not to be pts. First one years ago  india much bleeding 4 nights in hospital,good /cheap but it does grow again

Consult a good specialist.  May be time to consider more definitive ttestment e.g. laser or TURP.

I had Rezum treatment in October 2021 and am still doing fine (despite being in the first lot that got that treatment in Thailand). Not the great result I expected, but still much better than pre-treatment and I would have the treatment again if necessary. However, I'd do as suggested by Sheryl and consult a specialist.

My dad had Turp in his late 80's and wished he'd done it many years before that as the BPH meds caused all kinds of problems.  However, I personally know one person who became, and still is, incontinent as a direct result of Turp. I have also read about others that wished they had not taken the Turp route due to incontinence, retrograde ejacualtion and even full on ED.

I know a guy who had Rezum done at BHP a while back and he was very pleased with the outcome. That was maybe two years ago and I haven't heard recently how he's getting on. I had a look at the BHP website about it and they said you'd need to get it repeated every 2 to 5 years. Since the guy paid 200,000 Baht for it and I think the price is now 220 000 Baht, that's really a bit too much to have to fork out every two years or so. A friend in the UK had the laser treatment done 6 months ago, which involved a night as an inpatient. Is that available in Thailand, and does it last longer than the steam treatment?

Yes and yes. But available in only a few hospitals in Thailand. Would suggest Siriraj for this.

Recently had an appointment to see a urologist, he quoted me $4000.00 for rezum, but insisted I try medication first, before taking said medication I studied the side effect, holy molybdenum no thanks, I have chosen to treat myself naturally, keto diet, have lost 5kg over 6 weeks, and it is working much better, the reasoning is that if you lose weight, your prostate also loses weight, I make a bunch of different drinks to aid including acv, Turmeric, etc, but now at 76.3 kg I cannot get much thinner without looking ghastly, but that price he quoted me for rezum appears to be very attractive compared to Thailand,  especially for Americans and their strong dollar.

Thanks Sheryl, do you have any idea of the price of the laser treatment at Siriraj? Not an exact figure, but is it about the same as Rezum, or more expensive, or a lot more expensive? Thanks.

At Siriraj private wing  it is between 150- 200k .  Not sure if available via  public channel.  The doctor to ask for is Prof.  Sunai Leewansangtong.

I had Rezum treatment two months ago at a private hospital here.  It did not work.  I'm still wearing a urinary catheter around like a ball and chain.  I had to borrow money for it, and now  I'm very disappointed.

Hopefully, things will improve for you. Most of the promotional material sort of indicates that you will be back to normal in a matter of days, when in fact that is not always the case. It all depends on how many points were steamed, the size of the prostate and natural healing rate, which varies from person to person. I was on a catheter for two or three weeks (not 7 days as indicated prior treatment), and as was noted by othrs who have had the treatment, you often get worse before you get better. My condition initially was quite a bit worse than pre-treatment and it took about 3 to 4 months before I saw any real improvement.

Needless to say, that I am not keen of doing it again. Looking at TURP, it seems to be even more invasive/radical than Rezum.

"Laser" was mentioned. Less invasive as the 2 above? At what time intervals would "Laser" have to be re-done?

HOLep laser works at least 10 years for 75% of patients. 

 

TURP, laser, Rezum are all equally invasive;  all involve going up the urethra and partial removal of prostate tissue. 

 

TURP has been around the longest, REZUM is newest so least known about it especislly long term outcomes. It can only br used on orostates below a certain size (no such  lmitation for  laser or TURO).

 

There are individual specific  factors that might favor one treatment over another for a particular patient (overall medicsl history; which lobes are more enlarged, etc). Best to explore all this in cinsultation with a urologist ecperienced in all these techniques.

 

There is more precision using laser and blood loss, average hospital stay are less thsn eith TURP. But still invasive.

Very helpful, as usual. REZUM is relatively new. Trying to avoid a Guinnie-Pig situation, is "Laser" older or newer than REZUM?

Yes, by more than a decade.

 

That is internationally speaking.

 

Both treatments are pretty new in Thailand.

Will take place in Switzerland. According to my thread, no assurance of "quality work", as such procedures are performd by "assistant doctors/future surgeons" at "University Hospitals". Well, one has to learn the trade somewhere, "University Hospitals" a good place to learn the trade. Rant over.

in Switzerland, PAE (prostatic artery embolization) might also be an option and this is less invasive, though also newer than TURP. You need to have a detailed discussion with your urologist there, reviewing the pros and cons of each option specific to your situation.

Also Holep works for large prostate, while TURP, Rezum, etc. are not recommended for glands larger than 80cc.

Forgot to add that Holep has another huge advantage the tissues removed from the Prostate can be biopsied. As for TURP, but not Rezum and other laser treatments.
