It was great time for those who had mortgages, as wages rises deflated the debt.

Yes, because I'm sure the only thing they ever needed to spend money on was a mortgage repayment. :whistling:

Duh, your point? I never said the above isn't true.  Do you actually read posts or just reply to stories in your own head.

Why are you stating that wealth disparity isn't an issue?  Get where I'm going with that? 555

Where am stating wealth disparity isn’t an issue?

This is Joe Biden's legacy........

"Compare the US with other big Western economies. At the end of 2024, America’s economy was 12.1% bigger than it was at the end of 2019, on the eve of the pandemic. Over the same period Canada grew 7.7%, France 4% and the UK 3.2%. Germany shrank 0.1%.

That does not look like a country which is being ripped off. In fact, largely under Joe Biden, America thrived".

The 20% inflation was a killer.

Ha. This is highly misleading information as the cost of living in the US has increased to such a dramatic extent. Never before have Americans struggled like they are right now (except during the great depression). Many have two to three jobs and are barely making ends meet, the homeless population is surging like never before, houseless population (which comprises those who choose not to rent anymore and would rather live in their vehicles, than pay $3000 for a bungalow, or small apartment in major cities) is estimated to be as high as 5 million people. Unless you own a home free and clear in America these days, or are earning over $400,000 a year, you are basically screwed. The quality of life in America has declined so dramatically the nation is barely recognizable to those of us who go back and forth. So these kind of studies are almost completely useless.

And with these ridiculous new Trump policies it's only going to get worse. America is on a precipitous decline and these new policies are only going to exacerbate that decline.

Nobody has 3 jobs. Some people do three different gigs but nobody has 3 full time jobs that is impossible. Somebody might drive Uber, do a couple days at Walmart or somewhere and sell things on Etsy. That isn't three jobs. Some people probably have 7 jobs if we don't take into account a day is only 24 hours. The other myth is people driving like 90 miles to work at. A fast food place that is also pretty much impossible.

Housing costs seems to be a new world order problem as nearly all western countries, no matter what government, seem to be forcing house prices up, along with wanting stabby immigrants to enter.

It always comes when you artificially restrict construction. In the UK planning permission is insane. In the USA it has gotten just about as bad. I have some land in Florida and am only allowed to camp on it 2 weeks at a time. Before i get a building permit I need a complete impact statement and inspection. It's fine but land is very cheap here and there are people sleeping in parking lots.

If you have land you should be allowed to do what you want as a small land owner. In West Virginia for example I was given a building permit for $3 with a simple hand sketch not to scale with an approximate square footage. They said they would just come measure later.

I get hurricanes and disasters but they are so worried you might lose your house that you can't afford one in the first place. Make a stamp for hurricane compliance and that can be mortgaged and insured etc. Make a zoning designation for others that want to build simple structures and have them sign a paper they wont ask for FEMA assistance. If you want to stay in a camper for example you need to dispose of sewage and maybe you should sign a paper you agree to evacuate if there is a storm.  I have a camper and will simply move it if a storm threatens. The zoning bodies should be there to help you navigate the process not hinder you from making yourself a home.

In Laos I was in a typhoon one time and read 2,700 houses were lost. I laughed because many were just bamboo huts that were rebuilt while having a party and drinking Lao Lao in less than a day. The problem is by design and intentional. Can you imagine General Washington showing up and saying he had found a fine camp for hunting in the winter? Sorry General we are only allowed to stay 15 days and if they discover that tortoise on the edge of the camp we won't even be allowed that.

Even a tiny shed needs approval. I mean one with no floor and is like 4' x 6'.thats feet not meters, It has gotten crazy. The good thing is when i go through all the trouble it makes my place more valuable as many people don't have the skills or vision to pull it off.

On top of all this, the AI industry fired most of those that brought them to prosperity but now those human workers have designed computers/robots that can further the prosperity of the AI industry at a much cheaper price so those human workers, well educated are now out there fighting for any job in which they can survive.  There is no loyalty from the large companies as they continue letting people go too and hiring folks at a cheaper rate.  Today, housing costs are way beyond your average wage earner.  The American dream of home ownership has long passed the average person.  On top of all that, taxes need to be raised by the local, and national level just to stay open and give all the benefits to those unable or unwilling to work for themselves.  Talking to family and friends in the US makes me really glad I am still here in what I STILL consider paradise.  Sure hope it continues for at least 4 years before we see just how bad things might become.  I don't dislike all that has been accomplished early into this administration but sure  don't understand a lot of other issues nor how they are being carried out.  Hope all here fm the US appreciate what we do have here.

I like your idea of people who can’t afford housing that is compliant to building regulations having to sign away their rights to FEMA assistance in order to build cheep, and by the logic of your argument, at risk ‘homes’.

It exposes your mindset of everything and anything for the rich, precariousness for the not rich.

Thanks for sharing.

Okay the alternative is to blow people and sell crack in the Walmart parking lot. I am suggesting you open land to lower income people that has been made impossible through imaginary rules. FEMA only pays $750 these days you arrogant knob.

That’s hyperbole, followed by an inflammatory personal attack.

Forgive me for making a reasoned critique of your post.

I go back to the US two or three times a year, and the quality of life there has diminished to such a dramatic extent. Costs keep on skyrocketing, wages are not keeping up, and unless you own a home free and clear you are completely screwed.

There's a reason why there's now up to 5 million Americans who are considered houseless this is not the same as homeless, these are people who have chosen to leave their homes or apartments that they did not own, and live in their vehicle. They did this by choice, they prefer this over paying $2,000 to $4,000 a month for an apartment or a house. And nobody knows how many are now homeless.

The America that I once knew is gone baby gone, and it will never even be improved much less be made great again. That's just a lie and a fairy tale and unfortunately way too many people are buying into that nonsense.

The reality is that in Florida many retirees that own their condominiums free and clear and thought that they were set for life, are now paying $2,000 a month or more for homeowners association fees and insurance due to skyrocking costs. Many homeowners are stuck with rising taxes and skyrocketing insurance rates due to natural disasters and voracious insurance companies that are run more like mafias. Many are having to give up their homes and moving to their cars.
