A devastating collision between two pickup trucks at a U-turn in Songkhla province has left four people dead at the scene and five others seriously injured.

The fatal crash occurred at around midnight on the night of 2 March, on Route 408, the coastal road between Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla, near Wat Tha Bon in Ranot district. Emergency responders from the Inthanin Rescue Association, Ranot Hospital, and the Pracha Ruamjai Foundation from neighbouring Hua Sai district, Nakhon Si Thammarat, were dispatched to the scene.

Rescue teams arrived to find a black extended-cab pickup truck with severe side damage. Inside the wreckage, several victims were trapped, while others were thrown onto the road. The other vehicle, a grey four-door pickup truck, suffered extensive front-end damage, with its driver found deceased in the wreckage. Emergency crews used hydraulic cutting tools to retrieve the bodies.

According to initial reports, the black pickup was carrying a group of local residents returning from a funeral. The vehicle, carrying a total of seven passengers, was attempting a U-turn in front of Wat Tha Bon to head back to their village when the grey pickup, travelling at high speed, failed to stop and crashed directly into the side of the turning vehicle.

Of the seven passengers in the black pickup, three died instantly, while four sustained critical injuries. The driver of the grey pickup was also killed on impact, with his passenger suffering severe injuries.

All injured victims were transported to Ranot Hospital before being transferred to Songkhla Hospital for further treatment. Investigators are examining the scene and coordinating with insurance companies to assess liability and proceed with legal procedures.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash to determine the exact cause of this incident.
