A traffic collision occurred in Nakhon Nayok province at 08:35, on March 3. The incident took place at Moo 9, Hin Tang subdistrict, Mueang district, approximately 100 meters past the local administrative office of Hin Tang, along the road leading to the Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam.

CCTV footage captured the moment a black Honda car, which had been parked by the roadside, suddenly turned right to make a U-turn without checking for oncoming traffic. At the same time, a grey motorcycle, which was travelling straight along the road, collided directly with the car’s driver-side door.

The impact caused damage to both vehicles. The male motorcycle rider, estimated to be around 40 years old, sustained serious injuries and was quickly rushed to Nakhon Nayok Hospital by emergency responders from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation.

The driver of the car, a man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Police have begun an investigation, taking photographic evidence from the scene and inviting the car driver to the Mueang Nakhon Nayok Police Station for further questioning and legal proceedings.

What’s the rear view mirror for?

What’s the brake for?

What are indicators for?

What are road markings for?

That’s exactly what happened to me, a parked pickup suddenly done an illegal U-Turn on me.

65k of bike damage, broken arm etc etc, the <deleted> blamed me, & to the face of the cops, and the Court even when shown the video evidence.

Yup, typical here, Thais blame everyone else, and anything else, but themselves.

A Thai driver not looking/paying attention happens every second of everyday in Thailand. Not exactly news IMHO.

The ones that cheez me off are the ones that do look, but then they look away pretending not to see me coming.  Happens a lot at intersections.

Not an unusual occurrence. Such idiots should be banned from driving.

Sometimes they have no idea they are actually in the wrong, even in the most obvious of circumstances...

Yesterday I had a very very near miss....    as I was turning left out of my moo-baan, a motorcycle swerved into the on-coming lane (to turn right) into the moo-baan entrance I was exiting (the MC looked like a delivery rider)....  effectively, he'd cut the corner of the turn and we nearly had a collision....

... Our car would have been out of action for a week or so while the dents were being fixed, headlights replaced etc - We'd have had to pay for a rental to take our son to school and get around.... I'm quite sure (just a guess though) that his vehicle would have had no insurance and our inconvenience (getting a spare car while ours was fixed) would not be covered...

.... All because an idiot wanted to cut a corner without looking....

It truly astonishes me how so many here will drive without looking 'properly' then want to blame the other party because the other party were 'there' (correctly so) but the idiot just didn't pay attention...

Observational skills and self preservation really are at an all time low here...  whether drivers or MC riders...

I remember when I got my first license here, they had the room with the video up and running (most were on their smartphones), not a single person was watching the video. I also assume the written test is as big a joke as the drivers test in the parking lot. I would bet we know more about their written laws and road rules then 99% of Thais on the road, that's if they even have a license to begin with (Last I heard - 35% drive without one), the whole process of getting a license here is pretty much a joke anyway. I actually was in there one day for renewal, and I think a motorcycle taxi rider was in there who was obviously color blind, first he brought a friend to tell him the color, then the examiner told him "NO" and removed the friend, then he took the color lights test I think 3 more times, before finally passing it by sheer luck....LOL

Like you, I don't understand when they make maneuvers that will certainly kill them if they fail to make it, and think nothing of the risks while doing it, over and over again.

Drivers here are of the mindset that any vehicle behind them or that is to their right coming at them has the responsibility of watching out for them.
