sounds like common thugs to me. Claimed a dispute over boundaries, which is normal and can happen and instead of dealing with the authorities they used violence and intimidation instead.
Isn't Thailand always worried about reputation when some fights break out and these things? They should be on red alert for these kind of international crime stories when actual high quality expats want to retire and spend big money in their country. This should have been escalated to the highest authority and squashed immediately.
