I need some good suggestions on how I might pay my Pattaya electric bill online, without the actual paper bill.

Every month, my condo emails me a copy of the paper bill, which includes the barcode from the paper bill.  I'd like to be able to pay this bill somehow, by just using this barcode. Perhaps at a 7-11?  I have money in a Thai Bank account, but I don't want this account accessible online.

Anyway, if I could solve this problem, I could take off for a few months at a time without actually being in Pattaya.

If you have an old bill for the reference numbers (in order to set it up) try the PEA app 🙂

You will need a "valid" Thai ID, your pink card should work, or your GF/BF ID, failing that there are apps that will generate an ID that works.

If you have a Thai bank account you can just scan the QR/bar code, open a fresh account just for these payments if you're paranoid.

I guess opening a second account just to pay the electric bill would be a solution.  I'm trying to keep this simple.   It's too and I can't somehow just pay the electric bill six months in advance.

I set my PEA app up in my name using my passport number.

Can pay with Kasikorn, also Lazada there is a payment option but no reports yet of anyone using it

I pay mine through Lazada.

I don't have a Thai bank account, but my UK credit card (no foreign fees) is set up for Lazada.

When I'm not in Thailand I usually pay every other month, just because the admin fee is as much as the no-use bill.

I have the PEA app in my name.

I have an automatic deduction from a Thai bank account set up that's been working seamlessly for many years. However recently it didn't and without warning my power was cut off because of some glitch months earlier. I managed to get help to get an online account set up and fixed the problem quickly to get the power back on same day. I want to continue with the autopay but I'm not confident yet it will continue to work well.

Yeah, the app does now accept PP numbers, it was along while back that we did ours.

I stand corrected 🙂

How about this idea?

Rather than going through the hassle of opening up a new bank account just for my electric bill, what about buying a pre-paid debit card from Bangkok Bank? I think they sell those, and if there is the ability to manage and use the account online, and possibly reload the card from time to time, I could use that to scan the QR code on my monthly bill a copy of which I receive from by email from my condo.  No real bank account is involved, but the problem is solved.  Does that make sense?

I pay through the Kasikorn bank phone app.  Once you load in the electric account number you can just reference each month after the first of the month and the balance will appear.  You can then authroize payment and can do from anywhere in the world where the bank app is accessible.  It works well if you are out of town or out of the country and need to pay to avoid service interruption.

I pay the bill even though it is in the name of the condo owner and I am renting.  For me it is a lot easier than going toe 7-11 or another place to make the payment.

I had the same once. It worked perfectly, until I moved! The only way to cancel it was to close the bank account!

I was paying the new owners' bill for months, PEA refused to refund, or cancel the direct debit authority, and so did the bank.

Now, I scan the bill with my SCB app. It can also be paid directly with the "Pay Bills" feature, entering the references manually.

I went to some different banks yesterday, trying to open a separate account strictly for bill payment.  Kaisikorn would do it with some sort of tourist pay card that you can access through an app.  But I tried to give them 30,000 baht cash and they wouldn't accept it. They said I had to deposit US dollars.  Why they couldn't covert the Baht to Dollars and just take my money, I'm not sure, but the guy was insistent.  Anyway, if the game is to always keep the account in US dollars, then that sort of defeats the purpose.  If the dollars become worthless, then I have no momey in that account.

None of the other banks knew what I was talking about, although one suggested I first needed to open an account there, and show them a work permit and a bunch of other nonsense.

So, I decided to use my regular Kaisikorn account, but with a 20,000 baht daily withdrawal limit.  That way, if someone hacked into the account, they couldn't do too much damage in any one day.  So I downloaded the app, but then when I tried to set it up from home, it was only in Thai.  So I guess I'll have to go back to my bank and have them help me with an English version and also set it up for the lower daily withdrawal limit.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I've had the same using Kasikorn bank for more than 15 years without a glitch (as with you) but glitches are always a possibility.  Knock on wood.

I sometimes pay electricity bills for people I know who get stuck.  If you have a Kasikorn Account all you need is a bill showing the "CA Ref No 1" number that's also on the actual Electricity Meter.  Then you simply try to pay the Bill using "Payments" in the app and it tells you about the latest bill.  If there's arrears, you simply try to pay again and pay whatever's owing.  When it finally says there is no bill, you've finished.  No other app, passport or any hassle from officials is necessary.

This repeated payment process also works for MEA & water bills and for post paid mobile phone  bills.  I've even paid outstanding AXA life insurance bills for Thais using their Customer Number (Ref No, 1).  The number 2 Ref is usually the payment date but it's sometimes in American format.  Most of the time you can put a mobile phone number there instead of the proper Ref No. 2.

It really is so easy.  I can't understand why anyone has any problems paying anything.  At worst you could use the QR code on the bill to pay or even a person by PromptPay or receive money by using your own QR code in the K+ app.
