7-11 and Plastic bags...What about the Turtles and Global Warming?

I like free plastic bags as they get recycled into my garbage bags. Saves me having to go to the supermarket to buy single use plastic garbage bags to put in my bin.

But I am sure the supermarkets world wide are happy for customers pay for them instead.

Form the first day 7-11 opened in Thailand till 2020...Any purchase you made was automatically put into a plastic bag...

From 2020 to 2021 in 7-11........We absolutely can not give out plastic bag any more because we love Turtles and we are fighting Global Warming.....

From 2021 to 2022 in 7-11....We still love Turtles and we are still fighting Global Warming.......But if you beg and pay extra we might give you a plastic bag....

From 2022 to 2023 in 7-11.....We still love Turtles and we are still fighting Global Warming....But if you ask we will give you a plastic bag.....And heck about 50% of the time we will not charge you extra...

From 2023 to 2024 in 7-11......The whole issue of Turtles and Global Warming is up in the air.......But about 50% of the time we will give you a plastic bag without you asking..

From 2025 in 7-11.......We dont give a Rats-Azz about Turtles or Global Warming any more.... And we will automatically give you a plastic bag almost 100% of the time without you asking........Same as before..........lol

They stopped giving out plastic bags when the government ban came in - as did Lotus, Tops, Villa, Makro Big C etc. After about a year of development they brought in the current bags which are sturdier than the old ones and supposed to be reused (but no-one reuses them). They are also made from 100% recycled plastic from waste products (eg plastic wrapping during goods transportation). So they have actually done some good by investing in that and trying to remove some plastic from circulation (even if they are then bringing it back in to circulation). You can actually feel the difference in quality over what they used before (which didn't use any recycled plastics).

Ultimately, a sane decision, the original decree was forced upon them.  It's not just 7-Eleven, no need to pick on them.

While I have been using the same plastic bag for at least five years, I still get surprised when anyone says that 7-Eleven gives free plastic bags away. 7-11 does not manufacture plastic bags. The plastic bags for 7-Eleven are manufactured by Naraipak, a major plastic bag producer in Thailand. So why do people think the bags are free? Because they don't notice the price is added to the goods that 7-Eleven sells.

Interestingly, when they went through a phase of not handing out bags, the price of their products did not go down accordingly.

7-Eleven never claimed that it supplied free bags so there was never any need to adjust their prices.

Yes the hard core plastic bag ban was for 7-8-9 months to a year.....

There was never a mandated ban, it was always just an agreement by retailers to appease the whingers.

Thanks a lot for paying for my bags.

I use them as bin bags afterwards.

It's not like they force their plastic bags on you though. You can easily take your own reusable bag to 7/11 and use that instead. That's what I've been doing since they made a (meek) attempt to get rid of plastic bags some years ago.

I let 7/11 deliver and they give me loads of bags and straws.

They still charge you at many places, including 7-11. They just don’t ask or tell anymore.

Just came back from a 7-Eleven with two large bags, they were not charged for.

There was never a government ban on shops providing plastic bags, if there had been, customers would not have been able to pay for them on request.

What transportation do you use to get around?

Mostly anything that is gas guzzling... the occasional electrified train

sometimes a bicycle but the carbon emissions from me puffing and blowing must be high 😋

Why don't you turn it back to oil first then burn it in a gas guzzling  pickup truck 😋

Gas guzzling pickups a few and far between in LOS.... far better just to burn the bags or fed em to the turtles.
