Turkey just signed a contract for 40 Eurofighter Typhoons and Meteor air -to-air missiles no longer interested in F35's.

Trump is losing America not only friends and allies but customers as well.

Trump may well think that America can do withoutcustomers outside America but the companies and workers that produce the goods sure as hell do.

Meanwhile, in the least prosperous country in Western Europe:

Portugal, Western Europe’s least affluent nation, is on the brink of yet another government shake-up, fueled largely by rising discontent over immigration. The country has become a magnet for digital nomads and affluent expatriates, leading to surging living costs and growing support for the far-right.

Maybe they just can't afford them any more?

I'm sure we'll make up for it, we're behind on F-35 orders anyway. It's not like the world needs Portugal to fight any battles.

Possibly you need it's (Portugal's) cash, and that of other countries, to facilitate the programme to build what is a ridiculously expensive aircraft, which has very high maintenance requirements demanding extensive and vulnerable ground facilities. It is very difficult to imagine why a small country on the edge of the Iberian Peninsula needs them anyway.

So what you're saying is that it's not probably really about Trump?

It may come as a surprise, I grant you, but it is possible that every decision made away from the United States is not about Mr Trump.

Mind you, the thought that the United States, under Mr Trump, is perhaps not the most reliable of allies may have weighed upon the decision.

That's not what the OP titles say.  Nor the lefties crying in almost every single thread in this section.  Even the threads about problems in Europe and Asia are Trump's fault.

TBH, it's gotten rather tedious.  And sad.

Yes, L+M specifically, but watch this space. Germany are already talking to get out of the deal.

All Euro nations will be better off with JAS-39. The most advanced fighter jet currently available.

F**k F-35, useless and expensive piece of Sh*t.

That's my impression of the F35. Probably OK against an enemy that can't defend itself, but is that going to always be the case?

Portugal may be making the right decision for the wrong reasons.

Cancelling planes is serious for any country that makes a lot of income from military equipment. If other countries drop orders for a broader range of military equipment this could become worrying. After all, eggs are not a large portion of the export economy.

It's more likely that they were "interested" for political reasons and now that it's OK to attack Trump, they saw an opportunity to blame him for not wanting the F35. If it was the best out there, they would probably buy them anyway.

If the plane was as good as the US pretends it is, would they buy an inferior product just because of someone going to be gone in 4 years?

If they want to sell the plane, they should make a better one. Boeing 737 and now F35- what's happened to US plane makers?

That phenomenon goes a long way to explaining why Trump won, why he appointed Hegseth and why Hegseth has invited DOGE into the Pentagon.

Sort of a waste of money. They could just lower taxes instead.

Carney Reviews Canada’s Order of F-35 Jets Amid Rift With US

The C$19 billion ($13.2 billion) deal for 88 F-35s to replace Canada’s aging warplane fleet was finalized in 2023, with Lockheed beating out Saab AB and Boeing Co. in the contest. It’s divided into tranches and Canada has made a legal commitment of funds for the first 16 jets.

The deal hasn’t been canceled, but Canada needs to “make sure that the contract in its current form is in the best interests of Canadians and the Canadian Armed Forces,” the spokesman added.

So, 88 fighter jets  minus 16  fighter jets= 72 fighter jets that most likely won't get bought. "hahahahahahahah"

Its OK. They are going to be part of the US soon anyway.

That's the kind of talk that helped revive the Liberals' moribund prospects for the next Canadian election. They should send you and your like thank-you messages.

And if that happens, the people who are going to be most sorry are the Republicans. The reason that Conservatives have a shot in Canada is because of the Parliamentary system and the first-past-the-post way of doing their elections. The 4 main parties in Canada are the Conservatives, the Liberals, NDP, and the Parti Quebecois.  3 out of the 4 are basically liberal in their orientation.  Conservatives historically have garnered about 35% of the vote on average.

In this case what does Liberal mean?

Why do I ask? because Liberal now seems to have several quite different interpretations.
