Good question Bob. There are three posters on here that I utterly despise but I think hate is too strong a word. I hasten to add, you are not one of them.

I never thought I could feel such utter disdain for people I have never met. However, just from their posts I know I would have no time for them in real life. I have met people that have given the vibe that they have the same feeling for me. We can't all get on though, can we?

I've decided to let it go. Generally, I don't like most people unless they give me a reason to think otherwise. I accept that the boot might be on the other foot aswell. I can live with that.

Too many knobs about. I'm totally comfortable with my opinion and situation. It suits me well.

Also, in response to part of your question, do we need to overcome it? Hate can be good as positive vibes can be focused elsewhere. Better than complete indifference.

A good, well thought out reply.

Thank you, keeps.

regards,

bob.

I'm just glad you didn't ask me to name them as that could get me in a whole heap of trouble. And no, I won't, even if you do ask.

Never hated anyone. Hating someone achieves nothing. I do hate flies and mosquitoes though.

I do, though.

and I am struggling about what to do...

I don't think counseling will help, nor will any form of medicine ...

Hatred is a very strong emotion, and I currently feel it for myself and certain others.

You need to look inward bob about why you hate someone. Find the real source of the hate and let it go. You have been living with it far too long.

It will only continue to consume you until there is nothing left but hatred inside you.

Do you really hate them or do you dislike them ? They are not the same and the distinction is important.

I don't care what someone thinks about me, I do dislike many people and things. I choose to not let those things in my life at all.
This forums American haters (yes, I meant that) is as close as I get to having drama in my life.

Which one am I?

On the other hand, First Place on your list is an accolade. The best judgement of ones worth is the hatred of your enemies.

Emotional hate is a mental weakness, some thrive on it to a point of congregational rampant irrational hysterics.

Thais have a phrase for that: "You tink too mut"

and I would agree with them, judging from most of your posts.  Medicine won't help IMHO.  You need to change your attitude....

Personally, I can't say I really "hate" people.  Even the guy that killed my daughter. Even there I can't dredge up "hatred."
But?  I do ignore people who are generally unhealthy to be around due to their world-views. And many of those people are themselves consumed by hatred.  Which is a good lesson to learn in life - don't emulate them.  Will I challenge others for their views? Yeah.  That's probably one of my own faults.  I should probably let things go more often.  But "hate."  No - there is no benefit to it. What do I feel for people who hate?  Compassionate pity.  And the guy who killed my daughter?  Nothing. Emptiness.

I would like to open a discussion on the nature of the emotion of hatred.

What is a person to do when one feels their heart filling up with hatred for a person/persons/group/race?

Does counseling work? Is medicine the panacea? Is change possible?

Has anybody here ever felt real hatred for something/someone, and if so, how did you overcome it?

I think this is a valid discussion as the world is full of hate right now that apparently love can only conquer - but what if you have no love in your life? Nobody/no-one..

What then?

regards,

bob.

You need to explain your hate towards the Thai people.   Is your hate based in White Surprency?

I would argue that, as a farang, it is impossible to make close bonds here.

I even keep Mrs. Smith at arms length these days..

A normal form of hatred and anger is a common humain emotion, like joy or sorrow.

The best remedy and quickest could be to avoid the things that cause it. Of course in some situations it could be impossible to avoid such a situation. In that case, some good tranquilizers and a good shrink can help, before the hate gets out of hand and head.

I am on medication.

I was making good progress, but have slid back into my hatred so my doctor has increased my dosage.

It's an awful feeling that I wish would just go away , but it won't 😞

I think you need to be a little more specific, as the appropriate course of action would differ depending on the reason.

If you hate one person, because of something they have done, you have options like take some sort of action against them.  Perhaps there are some official avenues to right the wrong.  Or perhaps there are some ways you can come to terms with what they have done and move on.  On the other hand, if you hate one person because of a problem withing yourself, then that would be more a matter for some form of counselling.

If it is a group that you hate, because of their identity (e.g. race), that is probably also something you would want to seek professional help with.

Also, talking the problem over with a friend or family member, or getting some sort of stress-relieving exercise.
