A 65-year-old man shot his 56-year-old partner outside a village store before taking his own life at a nearby intersection in a shocking act of jealousy-fuelled violence.

 

Police and emergency services were alerted to the scene at around 07:30 on 18 March. Colonel Phongsuk Khongpan-yo, Superintendent of Khon San Police Station, led officers and forensic investigators to Moo 3, Ban Hua Namuang, Khon San District, Chaiyaphum, where the attack took place.

 

At the scene outside the store, police found the victim, identified as Mrs. Phong 56, in critical condition. She had suffered severe gunshot wounds and was lying in a pool of blood, barely breathing. Medics provided emergency treatment before rushing her to Khon San Hospital.

 

A short distance away, at a village intersection, police discovered the body of the gunman, Mr. Wanchana 65. He had suffered a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. A homemade firearm was found beside him.

 

According to witness statements, Mr. Wanchana and Mrs. Phong had been in a relationship for some time. However, recent tensions arose as Mr. Wanchana feared she was becoming distant and might be interested in someone else. Police believe jealousy was the primary motive behind the attack.

 

After shooting Mr. Wanchana fled the scene on his motorcycle. He returned to his residence before taking his own life at the village intersection.

 

Colonel Phongsuk confirmed that authorities are conducting a thorough investigation, gathering forensic evidence and interviewing witnesses to establish the exact circumstances of the crime.

 

The body of Mr. Wanchana has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and will be released to his family for religious rites. Meanwhile, Mrs. Phong remains in critical condition, with doctors working to stabilise her.

 

Police will continue to investigate the case while awaiting further medical updates on the victim’s condition.
