This move by Trump is not surprising since he's an avid supporter of the extremists in Israel, and he's very much against the concept of dark-skinned people having any level of power, including the Palestinian people.

Playing the race card there and also being a terrorist opologist .

Measures are being taken against the Palestinians in Gaza because of their appalling actions there in Gaza .

Measures are being taken against the Uni mob in American Universities because of their appalling behaviour there .

Nothing to do with anyones skin colour .

The Trump Administration is pushing the US toward a Constitutional showdown in the SCOTUS over First Amendment protections and the right of Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of Speech, and very possibly even Freedom of Religion.  As much as I believe that this administration is on the right path on a number of issues, there are others - like this - that cause me concern.

I fully expect a number of these so-called "illegal protests" on campuses as well as deportations of green card holders to end up in front of the Supreme Court.  As a First Amendment absolutist, I may not agree with the protests, but I support "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Whether Left or Right, no matter what the excuses are to attempt to infringe on the First Amendment protections, whether woke activists or MAGA nationalists - the First Amendment is sacrosanct and Inviolable.

However, I'm not particularly sure how masking for anonymity can be protected under the Constitution, nor do I support masking in order to conceal one's identity while protesting.  I've been in protests during the Vietnam War and even with feds on the roofs taking pictures, we'd just smile and shoot them a Peace Sign.  ☮️ 🕊️✌️

For those who failed to take Civics in school or who are not US Citizens:

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Once again , this isn't about freedom of speech .

(That topic has been covered in other threads though)

Freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to attack and harass others or to abuse minorities

Americans have free speech rights in areas where it is not restricted.

Americans typically do not have free speech rights at work, in the classroom or at any private institution.

Free speech rights do not allow shouting in people’s faces, threatening people, damaging property or disturbing others.

BS! That in itself is a first amendment violation. No way does this nonsense hold up.

There is a distinct difference  between masked rioting / abusing minorities and  and free speech

Free speech doesn't give you the right to break any laws and attack minorities

Free speech lets you wear masks if you want. Maybe it is different in Russia.

Problem is . People wear masks and support terrorist groups , then deny ever making those statements when they don't wear the mask .

Large groups shouting support for Hamas when wearing masks , then deny everything the next day .

  "It wasn't me "

If you have something to say, say it and take reasonability for it instead of hiding behind a mask and denying everything when being held accountable

Nope, doesn't work that way.

It really does . Freedom of speech really doesn't give you the right to abuse and  to attack minorities .

The Klu Klux Klan   were made to take their hoods off whilst sprouting anti Black/Jewish/minority  rhetoric

Not sure banning masks is the right answer.  But I can see adding criminal charges for being part of a protest and committing acts of violence or destruction while trying to conceal your identity.  Say an automatic extra 100 days in jail no pleas or pardons.

Imagine, you are allowed to carry a gun in public, but not a mask. Americans really make sense... NOT!

What makes no sense is that you have no idea of how a mask ban is implemented, New York mentioned in the OP is not the only one considering banning them.

"California, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Florida make it an offense to wear a mask if the person commits a crime or intends to commit a crime."

Guns are not allowed in New York college campuses.

Trump is looking increasingly desperate as he flails about trying to get a win in the US, and failing.

Luckily the US has a constitution and federal judges that are not contaminated by the president.

Here's to Trump losing, again.

You guys miss the  point entirely.  It is funny to here Dims cry.  TRUMP said that he would do a lot of things that the majority of Americans that voted wanted.

Even if the judges stop him and the DNC fights him he still wins.

Musk and DOge is an example.  Notice that the Dems are not arguing dollars and sense or stating a new lan instead all they can do is attack the person in charge.

When the Dems held power in the senate they stated that if the GOP did not agree to their terms and support the CR that it would be there fault that Americans would not get the services that they want because the government would be closed.  Then now that the foot is on the other side and they are the ones that were going to shut down the government it was OK.

Imagine if a GOP judge had said that Biden could not deport gang members.  Dims would be up in arms claiming that the GOP was against law and order.  Now though it is ok for a judge to stop a plane that is flying kown gang menbers to a different country.

The catch to this all is that come 2026 mid term the GOP and Trump can say hey we did this and this and this and it was the  DNC andleft leaning members that wanted boys playing girls in vollwyball, that stopped him from getting rid of child abusers and gangs, That it was them that wanted to shut down the governement and keep it bloated driving the country to further debt.

Perception is a wonderful thing
