The incident, initially shared on TikTok by the woman, Samantha Strable, showcased her attempting to capture a wombat joey, sparking immediate outrage from Australian wildlife enthusiasts and beyond.

 

In the video, Strable's boyfriend, Louis Sixt, can be seen laughing as the mother wombat frantically chased after them, accentuating the distress of the mother in the encounter. Renowned Melbourne influencer Anthony Voulgaris sharply criticised Strable in front of his half a million followers, igniting a fervent online discourse. He labeled their actions as disdainful and reiterated the importance of respecting wildlife, exclaiming, "This isn't a mistake. You're being a terrible person."

Others, however, argue that while the handling of wildlife was improper, the torrent of abuse Strable encountered was disproportionate. They are capable of suspending gestation for years during droughts. When the drought breaks, their populations explode. No risk of them becoming extinct.

 

Culled kangaroos are not wasted. They go into pet food. Kangaroo fur is the most durable in the world.

 

OTOH, the northern hairy-nosed wombat is critically endangered, and the southern version is at risk.

Injustice elsewhere does not  excuse inappropriate cruelty  in Australia. 

Your finger pointing ignores  tthe fact that the  people who are most upset over an overt act of cruelty to a young animal are also the people who lead the way on humanitarian activities.

 

Australia is a civilized nation subject to law. The American  woman takes delight in  publishing photos of herself with various animals killed  for trophies. She knew what she did was wrong and she intentionally tormented the animal for monetary gain. An Australian may be powerless to stop illegal acts in far off  sovereign nations, but they can stop an ignorant American from  flouting Australian  laws for her personal profit.

Lamb, cows and pork are raised in Australia by farmers and are killed humanely and used for human consumption.

Kangaroos are a wild animals and only 3% is used for food.

often use to have kangaroo on the barbecue in Queensland,mind you they did tend to hop of fairly quickly

It's estimated rabbits cost the Australian pastoral industry $206 million per year,  in terms of pasture competition, and land degradation. When one sees a rabbit warren covering 40 acres, it's easy to understand why.

 

You need to keep up. Calcivirus replaced myxomatosis for rabbit control almost 30 years ago.

 

Feral cats can grow to twice the size of a domestic cat. I've shot a couple, they will kill anything, even new-born lambs.

 

Australia is a harsh country, with harsh choices made by those living on the land. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

I have already explained the breeding pattern of kangaroos. Feral cats are an introduced species, like rabbits, foxes, camels and pigs.

Are wild animals killed in your country.

The ironic situation in oz is that on their coat of arms they feature two animals both of whom can be culled and consumed. I think that would be unique.

 

To the contributor who highlighted the reference to the vote held to see wether Aust. would become a republic. This was totally basterdised by an Aust. PM who was a royalist and included in the proposed legislation that the Aust MP's would choose the Aust President and that was unacceptable to the aussie voter and why Aust. today is still in the commonwealth.
