US Fugitive Arrested in Hà Nội after Covert Operation
Photo: Vietnam News HÀ NỘI -- Mica David Bass, a US national wanted for murder, was apprehended in Hà Nội on March 20 through a covert operation led by Việt Nam’s Immigration Department. Acting on intelligence from the US diplomatic mission, Vietnamese authorities conducted a meticulous search utilizing surveillance footage and reconnaissance to quickly locate and detain the suspect, ensuring a smooth process for extradition. The Immigration Department received a request on March 19 from the US diplomatic mission regarding Bass's presence in Việt Nam. The US confirmed him as a dangerous fugitive wanted for murder. Following this lead, the Department initiated a confidential investigation to secure Bass while maintaining national security and Việt Nam's international reputation. Arriving at around 8 pm, investigators began tracing the suspect's movements using security footage from Nội Bài International Airport and verifying his registered hotel in Hoàn Kiếm District. Despite initial setbacks, including Bass's absence from his declared address, persistence led officers to surveillance footage indicating he had traveled into central Hà Nội. Hoàn Kiếm Lake, a vibrant tourist centre bustling with activity, posed significant challenges in locating Bass. Nevertheless, consistent efforts focused on likely hideouts yielded results. Late that night, plain-clothes officers identified Bass dining in Hoàn Kiếm District. They discreetly tracked him back to a hotel in Hàng Bạc ward. Officers maintained overnight surveillance, navigating challenges of potential exposure and the suspect's criminal history, including illegal weapons possession. On March 20, after coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security and specialized units, the team prepared for a precise arrest, considering all possible scenarios. The arrest occurred around 10 am, executed swiftly and discreetly. So covert was the operation that tourists nearby were unaware of the ongoing capture, and it wasn’t until Bass was in custody that the hotel staff realized their guest was a wanted fugitive. This meticulous operation underscores the effective collaboration between Vietnamese and US authorities, highlighting Việt Nam’s ability to carry out high-stakes international law enforcement actions while safeguarding public safety and national security, reported Vietnam News. -- 2025-03-28 -

BREAKING NEWS Skyscraper comes down in Bangkok earthquake
What a disgraceful comment! What right have you got to call These people morons? People act instinctively in situations like this and when an earthquake strikes, anywhere in the worlds, people run out of and away from buildings. It's basic fight or flight instinct. -
