I'm just here to see who comes up with the first "original" Tuk-tuk, somtam cart, Win rider, wrong way comment 🤪

Tuk-tuks racing on a track, add a few food carts just in case the drivers get hungry during the race, sounds like a good day out  :cheesy:

It's a huge tourist draw. Why do they want to get rid of something that brings in tourism? Tourism is there only booming industry.

No need to remove the market as the track could go right through he middle of it it and the tourists  could watch the race as they are shopping. Also the pits could be there so when the drivers come in for tyres and fuel they could buy a plate of noodles to eat while their car is being serviced or if they've got time a wooden elephant for their wife. That's good for the economy.

Listen to Dr pulling words out of his backside. “Pivotal for F1”. Oh really? Pivotal? How?

”mitigate environmental and noise impacts”. What are they and how do you propose to do that?

Pretending to be a modern nation worthy of hosting F1 races is one thing, being one is another. The only way they’ll get it is by bribing F1 officials. There’s no other tangible benefits to F1.

Hey actually that is a great idea have a FORMUAL T race as one of the add ons.  Whohas the fastest tuk tuk in the world you could even break it down to electric and gas powered.

Seriously here is a better and more realistic an honest take on what happened.  Note there is no talk about chatchuchak but they do mention Buriram.  Bet that would get Thaksin in a knot and imagine how happe and in your face Newin would be.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/czx72ln9pypo#:~:text=Formula 1 chief executive Stefano,in the capital from 2028.

The other question becomes which track is gong to lose F1 we know they are in love with North America so those races are out Singapore is a hit, so who gets the axe?

Meeting all the safety standards will be time consuming and expensive , getting the road surface in acceptable condition will be more time and money and then add traffic chaos for days .

Just imagine a massive hole appears in the street as a pile of cars scream towards it , not to mention I guess they will have to cull or round up all stray animals in the area .

Singapore frequently has monitor lizards crossing the track. Las Vegas had "loose" man covers sucked up due to the incredible down force of the F1 cars.

Just part of the theatre

There's a week between China and Japan that is free plus the option of extending the season further

If an existing F1 is cancelled it will be in Europe. Don't forget they will be keen to return to Sochi in Russia if that becomes possible.

The drivers talk of Singapore as being the most physically draining due to the humidity. I expect Bangkok would be the same.

Unfortunately Singapore has positioned itself as the networking/must see race for South East Asia. Will the "money" people also come to Thailand. Probably not but you will get a lot of F1 tourists happy to pay US$1k a day for a good seating package

I am surprised it has gotten this far, to be honest.  Presuming it advances, my only request is that they design a circuit that enables actual racing (overtakes) - Singapore is cool with night racing and all, but the race itself is a a bore - shouldn’t have to hope for weather or track incidents for a little excitement.

F1 has a 2 week window between races,  The European races are more important as that iw where they have a larger base.

Right now the only track that is F1 approved is Buriram and there is no way Thaksin will allow that to happen.

The only thing that has been granted by F1 is for Thailand to go ahead with invetigating if it could hold it.  Looking at what it brings to the city and is there a surface that the F! will authorize,  They also need sponsors to pony up the 36 million at least that is needed

Not sure they have fully grasped the magnitude of the costs of putting together a "street track" along with the costs of not only buying & erecting the stands, safety fences & pit stop requirements.

A street track is worse as can only be used once a year & has the added cost of disassembly & storage properly.

They should have a long hard look at the Korean GP situation & the exorbitant costs expended

with no recompense by F1 at all.

Does anybody recall the "Half Marathon" a few years back? it wound up being 1.5 times as long as it was supposed to be?

Where oh where shall the Soidogs be during this event?

I hit a soidog going 100 kph (it ran out in front of me and tore the front end off my Niaasan truck)....I never slowed down due the fear of a mob demanding 10,000 baht from the Farang.....(he was a special dog ya know...)

Its not the soi dogs that will be the biggest problem.

The motorbikes coming the wrong way will be a major hazard.

Where is the 8 billion baht coming from to enter? Plus all the outgoings for future races. Somehow I can't see this eventuating any time soon.

EVENTUATING is a new word to me, but I know what it means. Thanks.

In simple plain English = taking place.

It's amazing where the money should come from.

I hope from Red bull heir, Paetongtarn, Thaksin and higher Hi-Sos'. 😳

The redbull kid has an appointment with his "dentist" for some "medicine"  for a couple of years.

Thaksin is occupied with his traumatic injuries and the daughter is looking for cosmetica and hand bags.

The other Hi-sos' iv'e no idea about. Anyway I don't believe in a F1 race in Bangkok ever.

Yeah, sounds very reasonable what you write. Thailand as the center of the world. What a wonderful headline😂

In a word, Politics. The current CEO of F1 Stefano Domenicali, had a planned meeting with the PM the Tuesday after the Australian F1 weekend (18-Mar-25), to which he commented the plans were "impressive", and that the Thai Government would commission a feasibility study into hosting a Grand Prix street circuit from 2028.

No point doing anything before 2027, as that's when Boss's statute of limitations expire. So Red Bull will be out in force.

Also, Stefano as CEO of F1 is technically responsible for F2, F3 and F1 Academy.  So reading between the lines, what might be constructed isn't necessary a F1 track to F1 FIA standards.

Taking the Singapore F1 circuit as an example, the initial 2008 race cost 150 million Singapore Dollar,  or 3.8 Billion THB at the time. Of which the Singapore Government stumped up 90 million, with ongoing running costs, approx 20million Singapore Dollar pa. Initial contract was for 5 years, so ROI of 38Million pa to initially break even. Luckily the Singapore contract has been extended, and is currently contracted until 2028.

Has Thailand got this kind of money, especially with other infrastructure projects, ie the canal, high speed railway, Bangkok overhead road etc.

Could this be a coincidence, Singapore 2028 vs Thailand 2028, or is F1 playing politics with a possible alternative race in SEA to fleece Singapore for more dollars and keep the night race on the calendar for another contract extension?

No one mentioned the reference to the noise impact ,f1 is renowned for the noise, thats part of the pull of the sport. I think the would be Thai promoters need to take a long hard look at what they can expect, may be formula EV is more their sport.

As a former club racer, and a follower of F1 since my parents took me aged 8 to watch the first ever F1 grand Prix at Silverstone in 1950, I just wonder if the Thais pushing for this know or care about the enormous cost, disruption, effort, knowledge and skill required to organise an event such as this. But, TIT, so it may well happen notwithstanding all the complicated issues involved.

I thought I was something having been at the first ever F1 race in Long Beach in 1976 and Formula 5000 before that. Good for you.
This is the first time I've ever missed the Baja 1000, KOH, or the mint 400 and several others

The track cost isn't bad once its been done the first time, after that its just track maint. The track crews have set up/tear down to a science now.

Quite a few are one week. Melbourne/Shanghai... one week. Austria and Britain is another. Imola, Monaco, Spain .. three races in three weeks, USA and Mexico plus there 's a few more

The European races don't pay anywhere near the fees paid by Asia. Italy having two F1 races is not the norm.

Las Vegas pay nothing as F1 is trying to expand the US market.

Liberty has changed F1 beyond all recognition

They are relatively quiet these days. A few years back they increased the noise level because the fans complained that the cars were too quiet

With the introduction of the hybrid era, yes cars are slightly quieter.

They still make 140db  which is above the audible pain threshold of humans.

For full sound proofing you're looking at about 3 inch thick multi laminated glass, like in the newly opened trackside Hilton Hotel on the starting grid at Silverstone.

With Thailand's abundance of single paine glass, you'll be hearing the cars from miles away in your house or Condo.

That's true for this year, bear in mind the Chinese weekend is normally held in late April, but was changed to March for this year.

Dates for 2026 haven't been released yet.

Also extending the season beyond the current 24 races would cause a revolt in the Pit Lane by the teams, which will include an eleventh team next year, in General Motors, so the money pot will now be split 11 ways.

I dunno, Alex Albon is none too shabby. Alright, born in UK but half Thai and potential future world champ. Plenty of talent here. Thais can even fly planes you know. 🙂

If Taksin is involved I'm sure he will be selling off everything to pocket more money, so want to buy a cheap 50 million dollar car for 500,000 just come see Tony Ts car yard in Bangkok.

This will be fantastic and draw in many people who have never travelled to Thailand.

Hardly anyone comes to Thailand just once, it is addictive, so this will have endless benefits for the Thai  economy long term.

Smart people the Thais.
