Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is set to visit Phuket tomorrow, March 28, as part of her initiative to advance Thailand's standing in sustainable tourism. Ahead of her trip, she chaired the 12th Cabinet meeting for 2025, confirmed by government spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap. The focal point now shifts to Phuket, where the PM will headline the Thailand Sustainable Tourism Conference (TSTC) 2025 at Phuket Rajabhat University’s Conference Centre.

In her keynote speech, "Soft Power: A Mechanism for Creating Sustainability for Thai Tourism," Paetongtarn aims to highlight how Thai culture, local identity, and creative industries can foster a sustainable tourism model. The intent is to integrate Thailand's rich heritage with innovative strategies, positioning the country as a leader in sustainable travel.

TSTC 2025 is a precursor to the Global Sustainable Tourism Conference (GSTC) 2026, which Thailand will host. The upcoming conference in Phuket is set to lay the groundwork for balancing economic benefits with environmental care and community welfare.

Jirayu highlighted the conference's goal to encourage tourism businesses to adopt sustainable practices that both reduce adverse impacts and benefit local economies. It aims to equip entrepreneurs to adapt to changing market and environmental conditions while enhancing cooperation between the public and private sectors.

After her address, PM Paetongtarn will hold a strategic meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall with local agencies, focusing on developing actionable tourism strategies. Her visit underscores the commitment to energising Thailand’s economy through sustainable tourism practices, ensuring the long-term viability of destinations like Phuket, reported The Thaiger.

What is wrong with these people?   Phuket Phuket Phuket.  I live in phuket.  Phuket doesn’t need any more tourists.  It needs a better infrastructure.  Better roads.  Mass transit. Traffic police.  Control on developments. Better schooling. Better life quality for the local community.   People are living in slums and the PM wants sustainability.  Take Care Of  Your People Mrs PM. They are living in substandard conditions.
