A routine police check in Nonthaburi led to a shocking discovery when officers woke a 19-year-old man sleeping in his car, only to find an arsenal of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and illegal drugs inside.

On 31 March, officers from Bang Yai Police Station, led by Pol. Col. Siraphop Anusiri, were alerted to a vehicle with a flat tyre parked in a lot near a general goods store in Bang Muang, Nonthaburi. Upon arrival they found a grey Toyota Yaris with a flat front-right tyre. A mechanic was in the process of changing it, but the car’s owner, later identified as Teerawat, 19, from Surin province, was asleep inside, unresponsive to attempts to wake him.

When officers managed to wake him, they noted he appeared dazed and incoherent, displaying behaviour consistent with drug intoxication. Their suspicions aroused, they conducted a search of the vehicle and its owner, uncovering a cache of illegal items:

• 141 methamphetamine pills (yaba)

• Four firearms, including:

• One blank-firing revolver

• One modified blank-firing semi-automatic pistol

• Two homemade firearms (pen guns)

• One grenade-like explosive device

• Ammunition stockpile, including:

• 46 rounds of 9mm ammunition

• 47 rounds of .380 calibre ammunition

• 35 blank rounds

• 4 rounds of .38 calibre ammunition

• A short-bladed knife

A loaded firearm with a magazine containing five rounds was found in the front passenger seat. The methamphetamine was discovered in the suspect’s shirt pocket, while 30 blank rounds were found in his trouser pocket. More ammunition and firearms were uncovered in various locations within the vehicle, including a grenade-like device hanging from the indicator stalk.

When questioned, Teerawat admitted ownership of the weapons and drugs, stating that he collected firearms out of personal interest. Officers took him into custody at Bang Yai Police Station to face legal proceedings.

The suspect has been charged with four offences:

1. Carrying firearms in public without reasonable cause

2. Possessing firearms and ammunition without a licence (homemade weapons)

3. Possessing a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute

4. Possessing an explosive device without a permit

Police are continuing their investigation into the origins of the weapons and whether the suspect has links to any criminal networks.
