Malacañang has reassured the public of its preparedness to repatriate approximately 250,000 Filipinos in Taiwan should tensions with China escalate. This assurance follows Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Romeo Brawner's call for military readiness in anticipation of potential spillover effects from a conflict in Taiwan.

Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro addressed the public's concerns during a press briefing on April 2, underscoring that Brawner's statement was a prudent measure for preparedness. "In our assessment, the public should not be alarmed about this," she stated, emphasizing the importance of readiness among troops and citizens alike.

While further details about potential scenarios for Filipinos in Taiwan are to be provided by the Department of National Defense (DND) and the AFP, Castro assured that the government is fully prepared for repatriation efforts if necessary. She reiterated the importance of vigilance, stating, "We are always ready. As AFP Chief Romeo Brawner said, we should always be prepared for any contingency."

Encouraging calm among Filipinos in Taiwan, Castro emphasized the government's commitment to their welfare. "Stay put," she advised, affirming the government's readiness to provide assistance at any time.

This assurance highlights the Philippines' commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad amidst geopolitical uncertainties in the region, reported Manila Bulletin.
