In the early hours of 4th April, a six-wheeled crane toppled from an elevated construction site on Rama 2 Road in Samut Sakhon, landing on a pickup truck passing below. The incident occurred around 02:40 near a hotel access road, resulting in the driver of the pickup being injured.

At the scene, the crane was found overturned across the parallel road heading into Bangkok. The pickup, which was delivering medical supplies, suffered significant damage on the driver's side due to the impact.

The injured driver, identified as 36-year-old Mr. Natthaphon, has been transported to Ekachai Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the crane, parked on the construction site for the elevated road, slipped and fell onto the pickup travelling below, causing the injury.

Traffic was temporarily halted on the parallel road so that the authorities could safely remove the crane. Normal traffic flow resumed once the crane was cleared.

Police in Samut Sakhon plan to question the crane operator and witnesses to determine the precise cause of the accident and to pursue any necessary legal action. They are also addressing the victim’s care and compensation.

Can you imagine what the insurance company’s claims office will say when they read the claim report

"There I was driving along innocently in the middle of the night when suddenly a crane fell out of the sky and onto me"    🤣

In the west, it would make the claims office gasp in horror.

Here it's just a normal day

My Son regularly travels from University in Bangkok to Hua Hin. He does not use that road any more, He takes a slightly longer northern route (I think). He says it is about 25 minutes longer, but a lot safer.

Is this the same construction where workers died the other day?

I'm afraid now already to use that road once it's finished

That area between the river and the end of Samut Sakhon is probably one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in Asia. The extent of the failure of this highway project is an abomimation. Heads should be rolling, people should be jailed, and officials should be exiled.

Driving along that stretch of road seems like running the gauntlet where your

life may terminate anytime. This driver will rue the day when a fortune teller cautioned him not to drive that stretch of road on that particular day as calamity will come onto him from the sky. A crane will drop by uninvited. Researching google, he thought to himself “what could a large bird do to him except maybe give him a fright of his life ?”

Excuse already... the crane slipped.... nothing to do with the driver or so.... It was slipping...But I think it as usual the ignorance and quality of the driver

Agreed.  I am tense through that whole stretch.  I should use the left hand slow lane but sometimes I wing it through the fast lane.  I think its been about 20 years.  We stay at my wife's older sister's house.  I'm 76 and my wife is 79.  My reflexes are slower now.

Refuse the medical claims and call it a "Pre-Existing Condition".
