Motorbike Taxi Rider Killed, Pedestrian Critically Injured in High-Impact Collision

A road crash in Pathum Thani province has left one man dead and another critically injured after a motorcycle taxi rider collided with a pedestrian crossing the road, launching both bodies up to 50 metres from the point of impact.

 

The incident occurred around 21:30 on 9 April near the U-turn under the Kaew Bridge on Phahonyothin 121 Road, close to the entrance of an ice factory in Prachathipat subdistrict, Thanyaburi district. Police from Pratunam Chulalongkorn Station, along with medics from Prachathipat Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, responded swiftly to the scene.

 

Rescuers found a pedestrian, later identified as Mr. Somporn, a 57-year-old man from Roi Et province, lying unconscious on a traffic island with a severe leg wound. He was rushed to Rajavithi Hospital for emergency treatment.

 

Nearby, the body of the motorcycle taxi rider was discovered lifeless beside his vehicle. He was believed to be around 40 years old but remained unidentified as no identification was found on his person. He was wearing a motorbike taxi vest from a stand based in Soi Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok 28. His injuries included major trauma to the head and neck, with multiple lacerations.

 

Eyewitnesses, including volunteer first responder Mr. Koson Yindiwong from the Hongsa Rescue Unit, reported that the pedestrian had been attempting to cross the road when the motorcycle, travelling at speed towards Rangsit, struck him with force. The impact was so violent that both individuals were thrown a considerable distance.

 

Emergency teams performed CPR on the rider, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene despite prolonged resuscitation efforts.

 

Pol Lt Col Pairat Wannee, the investigating officer from Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station, conducted a thorough examination of the scene, documenting evidence for further investigation. The body of the deceased rider was transferred to Thammasat University Hospital’s Forensic Institute for a post-mortem examination.

 

Authorities are now working to identify the deceased motorcyclist and contact his family. Investigations into the precise cause of the collision are ongoing.
